Description

Barnes Hill Trig

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A nice morning stroll in the Bullen Ranges with Relish64. This was our first stop over. A photo or two and we were on our way up and down some more hills.

Nice sunny day, decided to grab this trig and the nearby GC cache. About a 1.5Km walk along the road and a bit of a hill climb. Some terrific views west to the mountains and east to Canberra. Surprised not logged more often, not really a difficult walk.

Catching up on some old Trig visits. GPS at the time did not have a camera so no photos taken.

Trig was visited on 28March 2009 when I walked up here to find geocache Barnes Boulder.

Thanks for the Trig.

GCA 48 - 3498 - Catching up on logging some GCA Trig 'finds'...

I certainly remember this trig - the walk up to Barnes Boulder was memorable on 29 Aug 2008!

TFTC !!

I have been here long ago when collecting Barne's Boulder, but never had a photo. So I made a short detour up here on my way back from doing the GC cache Bullen's Back. TFTC Views were excellent!

Found on an early morning walk with McPhan, Sol de Lune and Norkmeister, while making a FTF dash on a nearby cache. Good views. Photo to follow.

Nice quick find - know the area well! Lots of flies and grasshoppers today! Even found a dead one in my boot once I got home!

70+1722=1792 with Captain Tomato

Discovered this trig when I found GC198B7 Barnes' Boulder in February 2008. Alas no photo of the trig because the views were so gob-smacking that I stood at the trig and took photos outwards....

I was here in JULY 1997. How do I know that? Simple, the evidence I left in 7/97 at this very trig is still there!!!!!!
And I was also here chasing TankEngines nearby GC cache a few years ago too.

But, that is no excuse not to go for another MTB ride, so off I go on a nice cool Sunday morning, rode all the way up the track and trails (As I did in 7/97). Admired the early morning views yet again. TOP SPOT.

Then, this is the part I liked, Cooeeeee, a fantastic ride back down the goat tracks, the dirt track, the bitumen road all the way down to the Murrumbidgee at Point Hut, and then a short bit more home. Loved it. Thanks.

After seeing the trig from the road and knowing there was another cache up here some where it seemed a good idea to capture. I did not know it was not created, but it is now. Albida
