Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Located on Big Bit Lookout in the Boyne State Forest just north of Batemans Bay. There is a GC cache nearby. Glorious views in all directions. The road up is steep in places, a bit washed out here & there but fine for conventional vehicles if driven with care.

Great drive by trig, excellent views, enjoyed the journey to this one.

First opportunity to visit this area since the disastrous bushfires of Dec 19-Jan 2020. Just poking around in the 4x4 and came across signs to the Big Pit Lookout. Headed up the final hill, and lo and behold - a concrete trig on top of this hill (along with phone towers, of course). Amazing views from up here. Shame it was a bit of an overcast afternoon, though. This whole area has been heavily impacted by the fires a coupe of months ago, but the bush is fighting back.
Pleased to claim this one.

5 Thumbs Up for the location and view

A neat little drive in and once at GZ, the views were great. Well worth the drive up.

Can't believe this trig hasn't been found for 85 weeks. It is a drive by trig with fantastic views all around and another GC cache to find as well. The road in was no problem, just drive to the conditions as a gravel road.

Happy to grab a two for one deal here and take in the great views.

I have been lazy and not logged any caches for a while! Catching up on some found with my bb Zal this year. Great views!

Heading home from the 10 Year Earth cache event Zhaoy said she wanted to got to the forest... so we spied the lookout & trig cache double. The Subaru Outback can handle the ascent find in dry weather. I wouldnt have attempted it in the wet... it gets VERY steep on the track to the summit. If you come in a 2WD probably best to park on the main Lookout Road and walk the last bit where the turnoff gets a little rough and steep.

Fantastic Trig! Great views all around and it is in good nick.

Came by to do the Big Bit traditional nearby and saw this trig as I pulled up. Soon I was joined by code1, also caching around after the 10th Birthday of Earthcaching event earlier today. Beautiful views from here and a fun drive to get to the summit.

GCA 567 - 5564. Another Trig I visited a while ago when finding the nearby GC Cache Big Bit (30 Oct 2009 !!).

TFTC !!

Came up to do this trig and the nearby GC cache. A muggle was there taking photos but didn't disturb me getting a photo of the trig. Fantastic views with a nice clear sunny day.

I had been up here before to find a GC cache. Today it was a quick visit before heading home and we got this trig and another GC cache!

In the area finding the nearby cache so nabbed this one too!

06-Mar-10
This one has seen better days by far. With no luck at the associated GC cache (we will be back for this one I am sure) it was nice to stop and look at the views. Great spot.

30-Jan-10
Found on a wet and miserable day down on the coast! No views today! But the drive on the wet road in a 2wd was fun!

21-Jan-10
After finding the nearby GC cache, McPhan and I wanted to include a find on the trig but two vehicles full of people had arrived just after us, and the occupants virtually set up camp around the trig. No chance of a photo for us, so we snapped ourselves standing by the nearby sign 'Benandarah Trig' - next best thing.

17-Jan-10
Due to a family reunion at the actual trig with no way to get close enough for a decent photo, we took the next best option.

Great views and some unsealed fun on the way in and out.

TFTC and the big bit of view.

Located it while finding big bit cache

I was up here on 20th July 2009. Thanks.

Took the opportunity of finding this Trig & combining that with maintenance of my nearby GC cache. The southerly had brought in cloud from the ocean & it was starting to drizzle. Visibility was low. Tree branches had fallen on the road so removed them on the way down.
