Description

From this trig point you will receive fantastic views over the Bullen ranges, the Murrumbidgee and South Canberra! The trig can be accessed from the Kambah pool carpark, (that’s where I started) but there may be better access points!

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Decided to take our pic at this trig as well to boot the find.
Thanks GCA Smile

17-Sep-17
Another day another trig.

21-Feb-16
Ribbit Out on the Murrumbidgee discovery trail today and we decided a detour was in order to get up here. A short walk across the flat and then an interminable walk up the steep steep hill Wink. It wasn't too bad at all in reality but the grade is pretty steep in places! Fantastic views from the top of course. TFTT Ribbit

Clearing out some nearby trigs and this was on the hit list, has been for ages. From the road it looks so close. I wondered if the paddocks were private property or not in the end I decided to play it safe and went via Kambah pool/ Murrumbidgee corridor trail. Except for taking a route that seemed like a vertical climb it was pretty well straight forward to get it. Although it did take longer then expected because it was much further then I expected. The back was a bit more painful as while I was jogging on the trail my foot rolled damaging yet again my ankle. Not severly but enough for it to continue aching as I type this a day later.

18-Oct-14
A short detour on our stroll along the river and some great views.

18-Oct-14
1st big hill for the day, lots of roos up here, nice views.
Dancing

18-Oct-14
Out on the trail from Kambah Pool to Casaurina Sands, we stopped at this one..cool views.

15-Sep-13
I have been meaning to get up here for ages an it's close to home but the best route in wasn't dog-friendly it kept getting put off. Finally a nice sunny Sunday afternoon when the dog had already had his walkies presented itself so Doppelfrog and I made the trek.

07-Jul-12
571. Just a bit more uphill from Forster Frolic and a few more hundred gasps for air. Boy was that the steepest way I could have approached? Methinks yes. But so worth it for the 360 degree views. Awesome, particularly the river down below.

TFTT and the curb.

Wow, it seems like its been ages since Ive logged a trig. A very pleasant walk in this morning, although my socks got saturated walking through the long grass, and the last bit was a bit steep.

Great views from here though, in all directions

When I got to the start of the Kambah Pool walking track, the GPS said only 1.4Km away, thought, this can't be too hard...might have been a bit optimistic. After walking some of the track cut cross country and made a beeline for the trig. After picking up several grass seeds and a steep climb made it to the top to see a great view of...scrub. The trig itself seems to be in a nicely growing clump of vegetation... Views just down from the summit were good however. Going back was a bit faster as downhill most of the way.

12-Sep-10
found with Tealby and BatGirl when we where doing Teablys revenge.

12-Sep-10
Excellent views once you make it to the top - the climb doesn't look that steep from below, but afterwards I checked the elevation profile on my GPS & it was quite daunting - I'm glad I didn't see that before I started! Mtrax made the climb with me so we could easily take the requisite photos. TFTT.

10-Jul-10
Great hill with a fun trip to get there. Albida.

03-Jul-10
Found with Mr Roo

We took a detour from the Murrumbidgee walking trail and headed up to the trig. Shame the fog was still fairly heavy, I'm sure the views from here would have been great.

03-Jul-10
Found out with Captain Tomatoe and SS-BJC. We left SS-BJC down on the track and headed uphill. The grass was wet and soaked my feet. The fog made it hard to see the view. But I made it!

28-Feb-10
Found with JmanJezza while geocaching in the area and picking up the puzzle cache.

07-Feb-10
Visited the trig while grabbing the nearby cache on 7 Feb 2010. Had a very close up view of this one as I thought the trig plates were the clue to the puzzle.....but alas not.

I now looking to grabbing a few more trigs.

26-Dec-09
Found the GC cache "somewhere nearby", then wandered here for nice views - even in the misty rain.

72+1726=1798

After completing a GC cache somewhere nearby, I worked out the best way to tackle the hill and headed on up to the trig.

A chainsaw would improve the views at the GZ but views just nearby are absolutely spectacular.

Wow - another longer than expected scramble, but I'm sure I did it the hard way! Great views - but then it is a trig!

After reading the GCA trigs forum, it appears that the consensus is that the person who first found and published the trig gets *FTF* honours! So I’m deleting my other trig FTFs and adding the ones I published instead…
