Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

This trig point was used specifically for the construction of the Sugarloaf Reservior and Winnike Treatment Plant. The Trig Point itself is located in the first picnic area after entering the park and is a nice and easy stroll up the hill. Enjoy!

Unlike a previous trig I couldn't get to, this one was easily accessible. A lovely area for picnics, and a great covered picnic table near the trig, with a wonderful view. TFTC.

"How I Spent My Birthday", by Nirgal, aged mumble mumble.

Monday morning is Sunday evening in the US, so my week begins with a mad dash around part of Tamriel, fighting monsters. Today was no exception, except that we dressed up as goblins, which must have shocked any other players that randomly encountered our party.

Virtual adventuring over, I needed something more active. Though I tried in vain to pry short-stuff from her comfy school holiday seat to come with me, the day was marching on, so I ventured out alone into the fresh air for a planned walk to a cache.

This was a cheeky stop on arrival at the reservoir.

Only in Victoria would we have a public holiday on the eve of a football game. Today is "Grand Final Friday" but nothing is different in my household. To celebrate this day I went for a spur-of-the-moment drive to Sugarloaf Reserve to find this TrigPoint. It was not hard to find. This area of the park was very quiet so I took some photos and then headed home to make a special dinner for my husband when he gets home from work.

We had a great day finding the OSS series, that starts nearby, as well as some other incidental caches. The crew and I enjoyed posing at the trig. Thanks to annoying Tarbit for being the photographer. Found with Annoying Tarbit, SirJ-Oz and Sharkiefan

A quick walk up the hill from the nearest carpark with the son on my shoulders and we were soon taking a pic of this trig.
Then it was off to capture some nearby Easter Egg Munzees.

Second of two while on my "whoops, took a wrong turn on the" way to work this morning Wink. A nice easy one at 09:40 with some great views across the reservoir through the trees but alas, I had to turn west eventually.

Thanks TeamGeoPlesk.

After grabbing a series of geocaches and rescuing three Leapfrogs up the nearby Happy Valley Track I came down to grab this trig and another geocache down at the dam wall. I little clearing up of leaves and dirt revealed the survey mark below the rather unusual trig (seems to be made of water pipes - rather appropriate really). Some muggle had been plastering stickers around the place including on the trig itself (visible in one of my photos) GRR TFTC

I was in the kinglake area finding some Geocache.com caches when I noticed this Trig point in my GPSr. The whole park was deserted today. It really is a great place for a picnic. Nice view of the quite full resivour too.

Down from Sydney and was in the area for work so took the chance to pick up some GC caches. Deviated a fair way to find one of the few trigs listed in the Melbourne area. Entered the reserve and an artist occupied the lower slope with his canvas and easel. Didn't look at me as I photographed the trig and survey marker and made good my escape after admiring the view.
An odd looking trig for sure.

13/02/2011 17:15 Found: #263 Took the entire family off to Sugarloaf Reservoir today and spent a relaxing hour or so marveling at the very high water level. This is the first time the kids have ever seen it this high. On the way out I saw this cache turn up so stopped for a quick picture. TFTC TNLN SL

Found by Bob and Daniel at 1710

It was a nice day to see some of the sights around the Yarra Valley, so I'd dragged my son away from his computer and had visited a few of my favourite locations in the area. Having checked out Maroondah Dam a few days back after the big rains, I also wanted to check out Sugarloaf, as I don't think I've ever seen it full. It was a great sight, and I remembered there was this nearby trig marker which I took the opportunity to visit on the way out.

Thanks for the cache.

Dropped by on a beautiful spring afternoon; dam was as still as a mirror. A beatiful place, easy find, worth a visit.
N.B. Sugarloaf Trig Marker #1 (TP5354) is 3.8km due East from here, but the walk to that point is a LOT further than 3.8k!

Parked the geomobile for a very short walk to the Trig Point, less than 100 metres.
Great spot for a picnic here.

Didn't need the GPS for this one - they didn't do a good job of hiding it!!
Lovely spot on beautiful autumn morning.

24-Nov-09
Nice and easy find whilst stopping off for a toilet break when working near by removing weedy pine trees. Great spot!
