Description
OK – other than a triangle on a map (which has mislead me many times), I had no evidence that there might be a trig here... Not only that, but my trig hit-to-miss ratio has been dropping rapidly! After a number of fizzers, I didn’t hold out much hope. (Certainly couldn’t see anything in Google Earth). Well, my low expectations appeared to be for-filled, when, 10m from the supposed trig location, I didn’t see anything... Well, what a surprise when I hit GZ, and there, in the middle of nowhere, appears a trig! Gotta be lucky sometimes I guess!
Beats me how any surveyors are going to use this though!
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1023 - 10162 overall cache finds.
Found during with Sol de Lune and luckyL10n. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especialy the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !
A trek up for the (very) nearby GC cache had this Trig as a bonus find. Glad to cross another ACT Trig off the list.

#GA281 - 10:35; Caught up with Sol de lune and fitzy_1965 on Christmas morning to collect a puzzle we had worked on during a recent trip, when they mentioned a trip into them thar hills today to collect two or three caches. Got the green light from home and off we went. After meeting up in Weston Creek, it was an hour to the gate, then another hour slogging through the bush to the summit and over the other side a little bit. Grabbed the happy snap and then on to the search for the nearby GC cache. I suspect this is a little more overgrown each time it is found. Once we had accomplished our mission, it was another hour of slog back to the geomobile and off to the second stage of the mission! TFTC Geocaching Australia

Up here with fitzy and LuckyL10n to grab the nearby cache and grabbed a photo for the album of this one as well. Certainly is well and truly overgrown around here.

I now know why not many people visit this place. Found this one with mr roo. I left a pair of sunnies up here somewhere if anyone is interested.

Something of a surprise, but it made the struggle up the wet hill worth two targets. Albida

An extra bonus smiley while doing the nearby GC cache - doubt that surveyors will be able to use it too much anymore

Well, that was unexpected IN THERE!!!! But a Trig is a Trig, doesn't matter where it is. An interesting walk in along the track, which according to my GPS is Dwyers road, LOL. Given it a top rating, not for the views, but ya gotta see it to believe it.

Wow - that was a nice find. Followed the old tracks, which was marginally easier than than off the track. Nice quick find.
After reading the GCA trigs forum, it appears that the consensus is that the person who first found and published the trig gets *FTF* honours! So I’m deleting my other trig FTFs and adding the ones I published instead…

Yep laugh we did (relates to the GC cache) An easy find while trying to find a real box. Photos for both Mrs W and myself will be forthcoming when my phone recharges.

A bonus find for McPhan and I this morning when we attempted a nearby cache. Found about 0820. This would be a hard one for a surveyor to be able to eyeball!! I guess we are the first!
