Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Thanks for the TP. Appreciate your efforts
I've been meaning to take a walk up this hill since logging the late Spindoc Bob's Western Sprawl cache back in 2013. Tonight, as I was driving past with some time to kill before playing Dad's Taxi, I thought, "What the hell."
Pah! to the plethora of stupid signage at the gate.
After so long without a decent leg stretch to a Trig Point, it felt so good to exercise those muscles. And enjoy a view of the urban sprawl.
And a toast to Darren. We miss you, mate.

Looked at the gate with note... not authorised to go through.
Read previous the GC description.
I go up anyway..
Beautiful sunny day for a walk up there.
Great view here.
thanks
A 'three-legged quadrapod' ?!?
Thanks for this Trig, gotta love em
Suddenly we found ourselves on the top of a shield volcano at a Trig Point.
It was a beautiful day and the city was just visible through the haze to the east. Also did the earthcache here, a lot of bang for our buck, especially with a trad at the entrance gate too.
Thanks GCA.
Great views from GZ.
Great views and worth the walk up the hill.
TNLN . . . SL . . Thanks for the hunt Geocaching Australia.
Many thanks Geocaching Australia.
Photo taken with my GPS's (poor) inbuilt camera - tweaked and scaled down with The GIMP...
Amazing views from here! See for miles into the horizon!
Every time I go past I look at it and think volcano. I am surprised that I have lived here for over 30 years and not known about it. THanks for enlightening me.
I could see way out into the bay and all around -fantastic.
There are some great views to be had here!

The dish was pretty cool and this was the only trig point we found today despite passing heaps on private property.
I have been meaning to get out here to this site.
It has a lot of significance attached to it.
Stood on the top and watched a shower pass through below me.
Hard to take a photo so I took a few.

The Riddeller...
Not sure about putting the two word together ‘fun and run’ but they seem to enjoy it.
On top of Mt. Cottrell we were rewarded with glorious 360° views on a brilliant Autumn day.
Our thanks to c@w and the GCA team for creating this trig point series. Love ‘em.
Agree about the dumping of rubbish, wonder what makes people do that?
Cheers Gordo
Great views from the top, also snapped some photos of an eagle just hovering in the wind.
I also watched the rain clouds move over the city.
I will upload the photos early next week as I have just moved and I don't have my computer set up yet.
W The Empire.
GCA Cache #2
Think that The Empire and I chose a great time to do this Trigpoint.
Views and serenity were quite impressive.

I'm very happy to hear that the council allows people up this hill to view the TrigPoint and the other equipment at the top.
The views from the top towards the city and over the Keilor plains are quite spectacular and were very much worth the quick 400m walk up the gentle hill.
A quick photo at the top (with GabGab in the shot) and we took some more time to admire the view.
Thanks to The Spindoctors for relisting this TP for all to enjoy. We certainly did.
An easy walk up an unpaved track. The Melton Shire Council owns the land and is OK with people walking up the hill.
