Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Note the cache is not the communications tower, but a regular trig located next to it.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Logs

i read some others logs and noticed that quite a few log these from afar, even from home. i decided that i would only log a find if i had actually visited the site. here, i managed to find a gap in the fence and sneak right up to the trig point. great fun!TFTC.

Today i decided to tackle some virtual type caches around town. i usually prefer physical caches but i have had a really enjoyable time finding trig points, virtuals, and history ones today.

Caching in the area we snapped the required pic, which has been added to the gallery.

This is the second trig I have found this morning as I travel back home after visiting my sister. Having just been alerted to Quest I am aiming for some more digs, thus the need to find caches. This one is behind a 2 metre high fence and the further up the hill I went the more it disappeared. Photo was taken from a nearby street. TFTT and the game Geocaching Australia. We traversed Bendigo a few times today chasing all sorts of stuff, mainly trigs and stuff that got in the way of getting between them of course!
We shot this one from the VICSES car park....

Out and about caching in the Bendigo area today, the weather's perfect but supposed to rain tomorrow so trying to get as many GCA caches as possible. The required photo for this one is attached. TFTC

Staying at Bendigo on the way back home and snapped this trig. Nice to see one with vanes. TFTT

Trig can be seen from the fence line. No need to be archived.....

It would seem as though the Council have made access to this Trig Point impossible with fencing and the like. Mad

As it can no longer be reached - time for it to go. Sad

Thanks to all those who made the effort to visit. Clapping

Note this is on private property, along with mobile phone tower, surrounded by barbwire fence.

Went up Clarey street, but no real joy, so back down to the intersection, turned right and just down the road the trig is easy to see.

19-Sep-15
GPS took us up Clarey road to this one. Trig was visible as we turned in the road but could not be seen up there because of dense bushes. Drove around the block but couldn't get any closer so returned to Clarey rd and took our photo from the bottom. You can just see the normal triangular trig marker to the right of the tower, close to the 2 bushes that appear to be one on top of the other.
Thanks.

Doing a day's caching around Bendigo I was near this trigpoint so pulled up. Did a bit of checking as to where I could actually see the thing behind the trees, finally got a view near the SES entrance though looking at other photos there may be a better spot. Nice to get a Victorian trig!

559. Took a while to find an in. Once that was done and the duties undertaken it was back down to the car to rescue FFP from (to quote the Goodies) a raving loony. Long grass around so happy it very chilly so that things that slither and bite are less common.

TFTT and the pot.

Well I didnt' feel happy at anytime to park and wander up in a very fenced off looking area.. I did take some photos around it though.

27-Oct-10
Last one for the day - we have passed this one a couple of times but hadn't worked out the best way to get to it. Bendigo Cup day is a good day to park here so it was a quick dash up the hill and the requisite photos obtained. TFTC

Found by Roma and Max.
We have been regularly driving past this trig ever since the morning it was published, and today decided to bite the bullet, so to speak!
Cheers,
from Romax.

Managed to park up the wrong side of the trig and read the logs while waiting for the rain to stop realised that there was a better parking location. Relocated to the car park but found the gates locked, got over easy enough but my GLW had problems climbing over so decided to give it a miss (needed GLW to take the necessary photo). Once back in the car we spyed another possible way up, checked it out and found some steps that lead round to the track up.

Thanks Phetlern for adding this one

BIG day in Bendigo, good chance to check out some of these trig points, seems we were the only ones today! Had to jump a dodgy fence for this one - which we are WELL prepared to do! LOL

A nice easy find, not sure if this is public access but we did it anyway.

The second last of the day before heading home. Boy it gets hot up here.
A quick parking job in the SES CFA carpark and we were up the hill. The back down to get the camera, then back up. Doh!
Some nice views from this location.
Thanks Phetlern for listing this cache on GCA for us to find. I knew this one was here but didn't have it in the GPS so we called home just to get the co-ords so we could find it.
I'm falling in love with TPs.
