Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Located in the Ettrema Wilderness above Tallowa Dam on one leg of the Three Trails Walk. These walks are mainly on old 4wd tracks. The Trig is about 100 metres to the east of the lookout over Lake Yarrunga. The scrub is pretty thick & there are steep cliffs closeby. Best approached on a fine day. There is a GC cache nearby, namely Ettrema Views

I'm a GCA novice but didn't stop me finding this cache.

Not to surprised that this one hasn't been visited for 312 weeks as it is certainly off the beaten track. Made my way along the Three Views Track towards the Lake Yarrunga View Look out. Once at the end of the track had to bush bash for about 120 metres to find the trig. Spotted the green box though the bush and then saw the trig. Great views from here. Will come back and walk the two other tracks another day. Very Happy TFTT.

Studying my Topos & adding trigs. I approached this one on a foggy day with misty rain. The scrub was thick & soaking wet & if it wasn't for a large green cabinet type structure, I may not have seen the Trig. No views today but on a fine day there are good views of the lake. It is worthwhile doing all 3 walks especially if the water is flowing over the dam wall. As I walk along I like to study the sandy soil to see what type of animals are about. Today all I identified was the paw of a very large dog, so I was looking over my shoulder every so often. There were no boot or shoe prints other than mine so had to assume it was a wild dog. All part of the adventure.

Footnote: Spoke to a person connected with NPWS who advised there is a healthy population of dingos in this area. They are unlikely to worry you as they are not a tourist attraction.
