Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Found whilst doing a GC cache up here!

22-Jan-20
Dirt road is a good one; but all the bush in the area has been burnt. Trig still though.

02-Feb-18
Found while heading towards Moruya for some cache maintenance. Finally had some time to make the short side-trip up the track in the SUV. Hubby drove to within 5m of the trig - now that's an easier way to do it ! TFTTrig

26-Nov-17
Easy to drive to. I parked and walked the last 60 metres. Not that that bit of road couldn't be driven, but I thought I might need to back out. TFTC.

25-Oct-17
Shame on who ever has taken off the top part of the trig point.

12-Mar-17
#GA1373 - 13:50; Out on a day trip to the coast with the geohoney and not expecting to do any caching, I didn't bring the GPSr with me. Our first port of call fell through and not wanting to land unexpectedly at a friend's place at lunch time, we decided to do some sightseeing. Headed out to Moruya Heads and grabbed some snaps of the local trigs and after stopping in Mogo to browse the shops and grab a bite, continued on to this trig. 17-May-16
Wow a drive by trig. An easy find. TFTT

03-Jul-15
A nice easy drive by today. The views aren't that flash for a trig near the coast, but its better than being at work!

09-Jun-13
No road closure today......all good to be found.

05-Aug-12
You have got to be kidding me.

The access road is closed all weekend for ...something.

(i always feel weird DNF'ing something like a trig!)

Popped by after an overnight stay in Batemans Bay. Road in was easy, didn't like the look of the short track up to the trig so walked it, but probably could have driven up ok. Views rather blocked by trees but still a nice walk in the bush.

06-Jan-12
A bit of random driving found us on a road called Mogo Trig Rd.
well hat is promising I thought. We stopped on the turn off to the summit and walked the last 100m. The track up wasn't as bad as I expected. I could have driven, but the kids needed a walk before the drive home.

19-Apr-11
Spotted the road name on the way south on hols a couple of days ago so returned today to find it. Wasn't in the GPS so had to duck back to find it. Road is pretty rough for a 2WD but doable. Good to see plaque in place. Pity vanes are gone but it has been capped. Photos to be added when we get home probably.

GCA 83 - 3562. A run down to Narooma with ACBC66 and AwesomeL...

A nice interesting drive up to this one - no dramas so it was a quick 'find' !

TFTC !!

19-Feb-11
Heading to the coast with Fitzy and Awesome L.
Another cache where Fitzy turned his two wheel drive into a bushbasher!

30-Oct-10
Found this one on a wet and miserable afternoon. I knew this one well as I used to ride these tracks when we lived at Tomakin.

06-May-10
Beauty bushland - enjoyed drive the car along to top.... Thanks.

1st trig to be loged
Found With Chris
I have seen many others before and will start loging and maybe listing a few if there intresting etc.
We stopped, took our photos and left real quickly as I had been called to work. Typical of the pagers to go off while caching.

18-Mar-10
On my way to OZ Mega via Eden, The Alps, Albury & a variety of places in between, camping along the way. Seeing how many Trigs I can find with this being the first. An easy driveby.

15-Mar-10
I always enjoyed trigonometry at skool and am beginning to enjoy this new practical form of the subject Smile
Found me another one today as I was roaming the Mogo State Forest south of Batemans Bay.
Another one you can park the geomobile right next too.
The family car will get you here from the highway.
No views from this one though Surprised
