Description

On a Jolly Nose mountain with magnificent views.

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Jolly

Serial number is: TS5541.

Last Inspected on: September 18, 1979.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Even though my car should have been able to make it up here, I decided to be careful and walk. The views up here are pretty good. Its definitely worth the visit.

I spent a weekend caching in the mid north coast region with Fitzy_1965. After a fun drive up the hill, we reached the top and found a variety of trigs. a pin, a marker and the bollard.

Thanks

We headed up here today to pick up two GCA caches for the "States of the Nation" game on GCA at the moment.
What a great drive up the hill.
Photographed the trig, located a couple of traditional caches and then had a cuppa as a reward, enjoying the view.

Had an awesome drive up here today with MrGT (driver), gangstella, The Happy Walker and my Dad.

A couple turned up while we were searching for the nearby GC cache. He had got his car stuck and they were going to wait HOURS for a friend to come get them. Apparently the temp was already 39 degrees and they only had half a bottle of water. So we gave them a lift down the mountain, which meant gangstella and I got to ride in the tray on the way back down.

Awesome way to spend the morning. Smile

One of us was feeling far from jolly after the 4x4 trip to the top - some people love off-road, some really don't. The views though were sensational, and we got a bonus trig.

Having found this trig back in 2007 with 'the family' and photographed it then I needed to come back and rephotograph it. So, as I'm prone to do I headed on back at night to get some more photos. Another lovely evening to find a trig in good condition - intact nameplate and vanes.
And I only had to walk a few hundred metres from where I left the car.

This was somewhat of an embarrassing trip as we were going upto Jolly Nose to show the sister and brother-in-law the fantastic views from where our Merry Proboscis cache is, however do you think we could find the track that we originally took up 5 years ago! After trying 5 or 6 different ways we finally found the way up - something has changed drastically over the years and it could be our minds.
Thanks pprass!
