Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

This Trig point is obviously a Light House and is quite near another cache.

Headed along the road to log a couple of trigs today. My word it was cold up here. Quick walk around the lighthouse and obligatory picture then back in the Ute and gone. TFTC

Found whilst on a 2 week lap of tassie.... finding caches not a priority for my partner...but it was his idea to visit this place...so I took the opportunity!
Noted a sign indicating an active bee have in the lighthouse....so was a quick snap and back in the car.

"Thank you for the cache.

A relatively new light house.

MrsD and I were up the NW on a four day weekend.
Today we went down the West Coast to Temma and I was allowed to find some caches on the way, this was one of them.

Found on Saturday 24 October 2020 at 1136

I photographed this at the time without knowing it was a trig. Convenient, because now I know this is a trig I am logging it, for I was there.

Always like a lighthouse, and when they double as a trig....its double the fun. An interesting and rugged looked area...but no the best or worse for the day. Glad I made the drive out.....

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

Staying in Smithton and today we headed over to Arthur River to go on the Original Arthur River Cruise. Great day out and we managed to find 4 Trig points whilst out and about.

Found on a day of trig hunting in the Arthur River area. Spectacular scenery.

Two for the price of one??? Having just started to do GCA caches (this will be my fourth) I still have some ethical problems with scoring a smiley for finding "light at the edge of the world" and adding to a cache count with the same item as a Trig Point. Might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb I suppose. Add this one as well, please.

10-Feb-14
This is another of those GCA trigpoints (like Cape Tourville TP5194) where the trig just happens to be a large cylindrical object with a bright light on top and a building attached. This makes them very easy to find ... unless you think you are looking for a black pyramid thing. Anyway, we found it ... and the physical cache nearby.

17-Sep-13
Great location - and I found the nearby cache as well

11-Sep-13

Another great view.

Found on a great day on the west coast after enjoying an Arthur River cruise. Nabbed the other cache while here too. Looks like the bees have made their home inside the base of the lighthouse. Next person doing maintenance inside may get a bit of a surprise when they one the door. TFTC Very Happy

13-Feb-11
I love looking at lighthouses and this one is even better cause you can get all the way round really easily and it is a cache.

13-Feb-11
Found on the DDTTWE trip up west.
Found the cache here at the same time...
A great day for visiting this area.

13-Jan-11
Nice and easy trig. Great views!

03-Nov-10
Most trig points are hard work, but not this one (drive by). Flying solo today so picture does not include a beetle.

30-Apr-10
Great views of the coastline from this location. We had to take care near GZ as there was a swarming hive of bees. Thankfully they were too busy doing their thing and we managed a quick find and an even quicker departure. TFTC
