Description

Victoria TS4544

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Victoria.

Serial number is: TS4544.

Last Inspected on: March 19, 1982.

Elevation is: 1108 metres.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I was doing a walk with the family to the nearby lookout. The first views we had seen all weekend after finally the clouds lifted a bit. Found this one on the way out after the hike. We had a house for the weekend very close by.

Got the bike out today for the first day of spring and thought I would head up Bell's Line of Road and bag a few Trigs. It was a little cold still and there are still some areas around Blackheath and Mt Victoria that are closed due to the fires over the Christmas period but a great day all round. This was my first trig of the day and a nice easy one I could ride right up to. It is in very good condition for being in such an accessible place

31-Aug-20
On our way out to the Coxs River Road, we made sure we grabbed what trigs we could get to. We started looking up, expecting the trig to be perched on top, only to find it on the ground, and a nice one....

#GA2502 - 09:05; Day two of a caching run to the Blue Mountains with Sol de lune. After making our way through to Katoomba yesterday, the plan for today is to head a bit further west as far as Mount Victoria before heading east again through Medlow Bath, Katoomba (again), Leura, Wentworth Falls, Hazelbrook and Woodford, before heading on to the Sydney International Equestrian Centre at Horsley Park for some new caches, then hit the road for home. Another trig stop as we closed in on Mount Victoria. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Drove up to grab this trig and nearby Piddington trig. As I approached the reservoirs I thought I would need to look up, however found the trig "hiding" between the 2 water tanks... Could get right up to this one for a change.

Found up at one tree hill. Either my GPS altitude is out or the earth is sinking or global warning raised the sea legal heaps in the heat over the last couple of weeks, because my GPS said I was only 980m above sea level. Must figure out how to fix that. Smile

03-Jul-17
Enjoying the hike above Blue Mountains with local buddy, whilst visiting from Perth WA.

05-Jun-17
My tenth GA find and third trig for the morning in the mountains. Stopped and took a happy snap before moving on.

Interesting to note that the elevation is 1111 meters above sea level and highest point in the city of Blue Mountains

28-Feb-16
On my way home from a great Geocaching NSW Event at Bathurst I stopped off at a few more trigs on the way home. I had been to these back in the 1980s, but all those photos had been discarded, so getting back to re-log them with GCA.
Got to drive right beside the water reservoirs, and then took a couple of photos before realising that the settings on the camera had been bumped, and the exposures were highly over-exposed. Took a couple more.
A bit of 'late logging' going on here @ 29/9/2016, as I was checking what trigs I could look for this coming weekend, and noticed I hadn't logged a few from February!

02-Jan-16
Found on a weekend trip to the Blue Mountains with Sol de Lune. On the way to Blackheath, we quickly rocked up to this area to take a photo of two quick trigs. Just before getting to Mt. Piddington, we quickly took a photo of this one. Nice views in a lovely location. TFTC GCA! Clan Cerberus

On my way to Mt Piddington to pick up some moveables I passed this point. Funny to see a trig below the water tanks instead of on top. A quick drive-by although I did get out to get the shot and one of the plaque which wasn't your usual one.

10-Jul-13
Drove straight past this on the way from Mt Piddington. Interesting to note that One Tree Hill is the highest point in the Blue Mountains. Nice little park too.

08-Jul-13
Last GCA find of the day before heading back to Canberra, and a easy find as its at ground level, Came down from Canberra and found with SDL and Albida for some interesting locations and GCA hunting
So manage GCAs need another trip to find some more ..

Blue Mountains GCA trip with Sol de Lune and Mtrax. We headed off to visit the Gnome Gnation area on Mt Piddington. We had some bad news on the way up that several had been retrieved yesterday, but we persisted and I managed to find 13 moveables, two GA Trads and two Trigs. The area up here is amazing. Dense bush opening out onto huge vistas and quite a bit of clambering to get to some as well. A great day, but now I have to chase a pile more locally. Thanks

Albida

Saw the reservoir as we drove up to this one & assumed it would be on top as usual. Then got a surprise that this trig was actually on the ground and approachable.

03-Jul-11
So nice to see a trig in the Blue Mountains not on a water tank. Found with Sol after the GLF& GFF event.

Found off Apex Street near the highest point in the Blue Mountains. It was great to be able to get 'up close and personal' with a trig that wasn't on top of a water tank!

A trig station standing on the ground just for a change & with added historical information.

19-May-10
Picked this one up as we went past on our way to find one of the 10th anniversary of caches that had been placed in the area.

10-May-10
I just had to go an check this one out on the way to placing GA2000. Obviously no longer used, only retained for historical value I would think.

Another early find. We came across this trig
while out caching in the upper mountains. I originally logged it for the now defunct "
#51 Great Southern Land: (5) That's the Trig." locationless cache
