Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points.

Monument Hill, located a few kilometres to the east of town, is a fauna and flora reserve that includes a monument to explorers Hume and Hovell in the form of a bluestone lookout tower which offers scenic views towards Kilmore and the surrounding countryside.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

What a large trig!

We'd done one of our monthly bushwalks up here years ago after I finally realised that GCA caches weren't that bad after all Embarassed and even took a group shot that would have had me standing right on top of the marker Shocked yet I didn't get the necessary pickie for the smiley back then. ShockedBrick Wall Being up here today to farewell a mate's Mum, I decided that I would qualify for the smiley so headed back on up for the pickie at 16:45 and another look at the magnificent views. Dancing

Thanks Datruk.

We came this way to find an old GC cache, this trig point was a bonus.
Didn’t realise this monument was even here. Ah! The places that geocaching takes you to.
I feel sad for the people who don’t know it exists.

We stopped off so that I could grab this trig, which I missed the turn off for the last time I passed through this way. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Another double header with a GC multi and this trig. Found on our adventure to Melbourne's 1st

It was a lovely morning to be in this reserve. We climbed the monument tower and enjoyed the view of the surrounding countryside and Kilmore.
We located the trig marker and took the required photo.
On our travels around SE Australia we have seen many monuments to our early explorers so will add our photos of this one to our collection.

This is a very late log - only because we simply forgot we hadn't logged it at the time.
Looking at the maps today (14 Nov 2017), we identified the trig icon, and simultaneously said "we've done that one".
This was such a lovely place to stop and we remember the day very well.
We chatted with a local who had cycled up there with his pet parrot on his shoulder.
Then some other cachers turned up just out of the blue - it was our friends McLookers and Tomstache.
Have attached our selfie from the trig at the top of the tower.

What a fantastic spot, we could not believe the structure here, thanks for showing us this spot.

Found on a fairly wet morning so grabbed the photo but didn't make the climb. Looked like the muggles in the car at the foot of the tower were living there!

I had it in mind to do the nearby GC cache first and then come back to climb the tower but the kids had other ideas and bolted up the steps and ladder. Rolling Eyes
It looks like someone before us has been tucking in to the easter eggs because there were little bits of coloured foil everywhere. Nevertheless, a great spot with a top view. Clan Griffin

Found on our 2016 Geelong trip. While getting the nearby multi, we climbed the ladder so that we could grab this trig. Such an awesome view from up here, in such an awesome location! TFTC GCA! Clan CerberusClan CerberusClan Cerberus

After staying with friends overnight in Tooborac we headed off for a few days in Melbourne and came up here to admire the view and bag this trig.
Thanks

On my return from a trip to Melbourne I detoured via Craigieburn for a couple of Trig Points and then on to Kilmore to a point I've been to a couple of times in the past; firstly for a GC and then again to let the Wench see the tower.

Cold, damp and very windy on the top of the tower tonight.

0847. I was looking forward to climbing the hill on foot but there is a fairly good vehicle track. Just as well as the X-Trail bonnet was the only high enough stable platform for the camera. Never seen a trig stone tower before. Very enjoyable views, environment and story board.

I toyed with the idea of doing a Wherigo in the inner suburbs, but the weather didn't look particularly promising. A trip to the tip to recycle a few dead bits of technology sent me north-ish, so continuing in that direction until I ran out of time seemed as good a plan as any.

This was the most northerly find of the day, before I had to start making my way back toward home for the school pickup chores. The drive up to the lookout was entertaining, and the view worth the stop.

Thanks, Datruk.

I came through here on the motorbike today so thought I'd come up here to climb the tower, see the view and log the Trig point.

Out and about on my RDO.
Did not climb it this time but have been up to the top numerous times before caching came along.
Took a picture as required.

Found by Bob at 1515

I was spending my Australia Day holiday on a trip to the north of Melbourne hoping to pick up a few of the older caches that I've been eying off for years. One such cache was maccamob's "Immortal", which took me to the Hume and Hovell Memorial Tower where, upon reaching the top, I discovered a trig marker plate. I wasn't sure whether this trig point had been entered into the database, so I took some pics and co-ords so I could do so, if necessary. As it turns out, it has been entered, so all I have to do is log it.

Thanks for the cache

Interesting and historical trig.

Found by Team Ladava around 12.40 on a sweep of caches to the north east and north of Sunbury.
Oh dear. I really needed something to eat before I tackled this one so we drove past the first turnoff and into Kilmore to sample the bakery's fare. The navigator then took us to the nearest entrance to the park and one look told me a 2WD was not going in there so the dog and I walked the 750m up the hill passing a house with a number of sedans in front of it. doh, I had approached from the wrong direction.
Took the required happy snap and the dog and I then walked back to the car so we could drive the better half of Team Ladava around to see the featured object.
A magnificent structure to commemorate the passing of these pioneer explorers which we celebrate in a GCA cache near the Tullamarine Airport.
Our thanks to GCA for this very enjoyable series
Cheers

It has been a long time since I have been here for the nearby cache, I am still not sure if this tower is classified as a trig or not.
