Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station and photograph the GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Official Code: TS1803

The road up the hill here was gated off today.... no mention of for how long??

Took the Subaru XV up for a drive to this spot. Pretty sure the old Mazda 3 could have made it, but it's nice to have AWD to feel more secure. Denman is a lovely town.

Up at Denman for a gig at "The Hunter's Best Street Party" today and so, along with my green lantern geocar, we climbed the hill for lunch and a spot of caching B4 gig call time. Got the vehicle to the trig where I took the required pic and then grabbed a bite. Trig is still in tact and is being stood by a pile of rocks. What a magnificent day for this. TFTC!

While in the area getting a few caches we stopped for this GCA trig, thanks for showing us this spot.

Yes, you really earn this smilie. No road maintenance has been done so it's still a road with wash outs, ruts and sharp tar edges but it can be done in a 4WD.......when dry.......if taken slowly. Rolling Eyes But apart from that, sensational views from the top and it'd be surprising to find there were any other visitors here so you have it all to yourself.

Well, how much do you love your car ?!? If you respect it in any way, I would suggest that you prepare to walk the whole distance, unless there has been considerable road works done. This would be WAY WORSE than the steep rutted track up to Tangy Dangy trig - TP6985 (near Wyong)! It might be quite doable in a four wheel drive, but I would imagine caution would still be required, unless you are driving a Hummer.
Finally got to the transmission towers after sunset and got to the stone cairn, wooden post trig @ 2015. There is a name plate on one of the black semi-circular vanes. "Central Mapping Authority, Geodetic Station, Denman". Took a few photos, and then headed back to the car. Took a few more photos at a lookout. So the Reg Thornton Memorial Drive is truly memorable!

Trig Mulloon @ S35° 15.129 E149° 34.323 already had an appropriate page, and this was a duplicate. So now it is one that can be found. (Just another 1,000 points to check out)

This trigpoint is already in the database (see http://geocaching.com.au/cache/tp5331 )

I'll remove this one as it was created last to avoid confusion!

With respect, this Trig is already marked as Mulloon Trig (TP5331)
