Description

Bongan TS1053

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Bongan.

Serial number is: TS1053.

Last Inspected on: December 2, 1990.

Elevation is: 90 metres.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

After Wybung Lookout visit and a drive down to the water from there, where a number of surfers were headed for the waves, I made my way down all roads in the area and to this trig. Not as graet a view from here as Wybung. Afterward it was more sightseeing, and stopping at Snapper Point for a wander around the rocks. A wander around turned into a wander down and sitting down like a pig in mud admiring the rocks. One woman passing by mistook me for a bored woman waiting for a fishing husband. Instead I was there for hours fishing through a small spot but large collection area of pebbles, picking out bits and pieces that caught my attention. I actually lost track of time doing this. Good thing I had all the time in the world.

Out riding thru the Munmorah NP today with the young bloke. We had a lot of fun discovering the park around the Frazer Beach area. Some amazing views not far from here in both directions but we especially liked the look of Flat Island which we vowed to come back and discover one day soon. We came across this trig by surprise just as we were about to enjoy the downhill back to the beach to rendezvous with the other two novos. It was a shame to see the vanes missing from this trig else it is pretty good condish. TFTC.

Access to these two trigs is very easy and the roads, though bumpy, as good for any vehicle.

A day's adventure seek with rogerw3 of listed, and unlisted but hoped to be discovered still in place, trigs on the coastal side of Lake Macquarie.

Another easy drive and park with a short walk to the trig. Weathered but in good condition with mast, vanes and name plate attached. Not much of a view from the trig itself, though a walking track passes by.

Not many visitors to this one! Shame as the coast around here is lovely. Trig in non-de-script location but the area is great.

We were there at 9.55am. Just love this area and we had one of our best caching experiences just nearby at Wybung. There are a lot of ships waiting to be loaded with coal out there!
