I was headed up this on a forced march lead by Goose of GooseandEgg
It was well worth the hard work and rewarded with some great view looking North. Very windy up here today and cold with it.
Thanks for the Trig

We had 2 reasons to climb the hill as we came to visit the Captain and find the trig. Captain Hayes welcomed us first before we packed him away and went on to the trip. What a trig! It must have taken a while to build this one. We noted near the fenced off antenna three old footings and wondered if they were from an old trig. It was blowy and cold up here so we didn't stay too long, just a couple of photos and then headed back down the trail. TFTT

While doing a newly published cache on the other side of the hill Mr W thought he would cross off a multi and trig that had been on his to do list. Enjoyed the walk and was rewarded with great views. TFTT

While doing other GC cache in this area, This Trig Point was noticed so a picture was taken as proof of visit.

Headed to this area to complete a multi then took the necessary photos needed to log this trig point. It was overcast and windy but the views were still worth the trek to the top. Love the old stone cairns.
It was a beautiful day for a walk today, so I visited Risdon Brook Dam to complete Captain John Hayes. I did have trouble finding the right trail, so at one point I just turned left and followed the arrow directly up the hill. With the ground relatively clear of brushy stuff (I think the recent fires helped there) and only 1km to go this technique worked quite well. I intercepted the correct track about 500m from the trig.
Now, it wasn't until I was about half-way up that I realised that I had left my phone in the car and thus had no way of taking a photo of the trig, but I was very impressed with what I found! Some work must have gone into creating the cairn. There is also evidence of a normal trig point marker having been in place here at some point in time.

The GPS suggested a short distance away, but the objective was obvious. TFTC DnA!
Originally we were going to walk elsewhere but the weather forecast persuaded us that a circuit of Mount Direction, Madmans Hill and Gunners Quoin would allow is to cut the day short when and if the predicted rain arrived. After the climb to Direction, where mist was rolling in, it was down to a open plateau that was followed north to Madmans Hill. At this point it looked like conditions would deteriorate, from the occasional drizzle we were experiencing, and the walk was changed to return via Saggy Flats.
We were back at the cars at 2:40 pm and were just driving off when the rain arrived.

Found while tracking down Captain John Hayes. A very windy day so standing meant swaying.
There must be two mount direction trig caches (one near the tamar) and I was looking at the other one - and very confused by the differing descriptions of the walk up. Clearly about two distinctly different mountains! Took a bit of finding to locate the correct cache page. I'd wanted to zip up again for this cache, after 5 years since I found Captain John Hayes. I thought I'd remember the way, but I must have turned left (towards the first power pylon) when perhaps I should have gone straight ahead? Anyway I ended up walking straight up the side closer to the dam. At times I thought I was sort of on a track, or was it an animal track? but over the entire length of the hill there were 2 or 3 bits of tape and 2 cairns. (Beyond even the most canny of wallabies I'd have thought). I figured if I could get to the top, I'd find the(main)track! I was so glad I'd loaded the trig point into my GPS as when I came out on top the trig was still 500m along the ridge but it didn't seem obvious. The other amazing thing was a wedge tail eagle that circled above me when I was half way up the hill - only about 3m above me and then perched on a tree just metres away from me! I wondered if I was looking like I was on my last legs. Then he just disappeared again. Trig provided an enjoyable break - weather was pleasant, and then I followed the track down. A terrific afternoon, thanks DnA.
Felt a bit ill so thought a nice walk would do me good and it has. Am logging this cache from on top of mount direction while having a drink so will upload pics when i get home.

First decent walk in a couple of months and Mr red tag motored along as usual. I on the other hand had to stop on two occasions for a breather doesnt take long to lose your fitness when you do nothing for a few months but I wasnt going to let it beat me and after 1 hr of walking we made it
It was a little on the windy side especially at the top but luckily the idiot who forecasts the weather was wrong and instead of rain we had great weather.
A most enjoyable walk. Thanks DnA

Hi DnA! Thanks for the walk and what appears to be a FTF. Logged this cache after Captain John Hayes at 1141hrs today, the second of two. Can't add photos at the moment as I'm using Dad's computer, will do it when I get home. TFTC, the views and the walk; cheers Oldsaint.
We were up here on an orienteering excursion when we found a previously unpublished trig point. We love the views and wanted to share them with others.
