Description

Old trig point in very poor state of repair (barely recognisable).

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I was with Barb2e, Joolay and Kitty Katch on a trip into Kowen Forest. We managed to reach most of the hill tops, so were able to claim the trigs on offer today.

Thanks

Found it while grabbing Tankengine's recent "Cohen's Cap" GC cache!
Great location, but a long walk and hard hike for the last 500m up the fire trail!
Thanks

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1165 - 11572 overall cache finds.

Found during a run up here doing the Kowan Roo. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especialy the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

Today was a big day for me. Did most of the back, head, ears and some of the front of the Roo before I'd had enough and was quite exhausted ! To top it off this trig was a bit of a detour from the roo to add to the Kms racked up today !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted.

Thanks Geocaching Australia !

Couple of push (the) bike sections heading to this one from the last, but it wasn't that far so all was good. A short trip through the trees to find was left of the trig. Doesn't look like anything has change much since TE's visit a few years ago...

Decided on a bike ride through Kowen forest today, and find a couple of trigs along the way. Well – this trig has seen better days… Nice view of the clay pigeon shooters just a little down from here. Total ride of 25km very nice.

My third trig of the afternoon, but unfortunately I had miscalculated the time so I was quite pushed trying to get here, and then get back to the car before dark.

It was a bit dark and close in there - you did well finding this trig pjw!

A lovely SUB-ZERO morning for a MTB ride. Really quite pleasant riding around the forest trails. Glad my GPS has ALL the trails, one could get lost in there.
Coming from the South & Amungula, then rode along the border trail, very pleasant, till I got near the trig then went cross country.
Got some nice early morning pics. Then Cooeeee back down the hills.

Went flying through one frozen puddle - CRUNCH Tinkle tinkle - that was THICK ice - broke like thick glass, bike OK.

First to find - Trig point 3 on my Kowen trek today. Whichever way you attack this point from it will require hiking or riding over several kays of forest trails with numerous steep ascents and descents (unless you're fortunate enough to gain vehicular access to Kowen). It was worth it. As you can see from the pic this trig point is not obvious and unless your waypoint is accurate you'll struggle to locate it. If anyone ever removes the remains of the metal circles it will be hard to identify. There is no road leading right up to this one but as with other trigs, if you follow the terrain to the highest point you'll find it. No view due to the pines but if they ever log it again it would be pretty impressive.
