Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A not so unexpected trig for me today! Thanks.

24-Mar-20
Out for a morning's cache drive to Wheeo for a nearby GC FTF (Yay!). Heading towards Grabben Gullen and spotted this trig just off the road in a paddock as I was cresting the hill. The attached compass screenshot gives the height on the road nearby. Very HappyClan Cerberus

Spotted this trig as I was driving past while on a cache maintenance run. I do like these unexpected surprises.

09-Dec-18
Stumbled upon this Trig while in the company of 'Throsbyonchurch'.

09-Dec-18
We headed off out this way to undertake a geocache maintenance run. Geokid announced an approaching trig. I didn't even consider to look for GA caches, trigs etc out this way as I was solely focused on what I needed to accomplish. Nevertheless, a quick stop to obtain a photo and onward we went. I had to screen save the coordinates as I had no idea hat trig this one was, lucky there is only one out in this area and on my route. Clan Phoenix

After a hot morning spent on the mower, a cool change with rain came through and so off I've come to catch this cache for the States of the Nation 2017-18.

Now, will I claim it as a cache with the word "area" in it, or as a cache no found for 120 days?

Decisions, decisions.

Headed out for a bit of caching whilst one geo-son was playing soccer in Crookwell.

Spied this trig whilst heading down to the first cache we had in mind, so stopped for a quick photo. Thankfully before the rain came down too hard.

Great views, but a bit cold...

20-Mar-14
Took a deviation on the way home along the Rugby-Crookwell road to pick up this drive-by. Was tempted to jump the fence to go right up to read the plaque and correct the name but it's private property so didn't. Good condition trig - helps not having public access.

26-Jun-13
A quick stop for a selfy while in the area just on dusk. Love these drive by trigs.

GCA 635 = 6477. Found on a run through the region today.

I'm the sixth 'finder' of this Trig - all 6 of us being from Canberra !!??

A quick find and a great view on a lovely Saturday morning. I am surprised that this is not logged more often. I love these old trigs (especially roadside ones).

Found on a caching trip with Albida, Jusojara and Mr Roo. A nice easy drive by. Forgot to log this and came across the old photo so logging a bit late...

Found with Albida, jusojara and Canberra bushwalker. Was just on the side of the road. Got to love trigs you dont have to climb up too.

I saw this on my way to a nearby cache (that I could not find).

It is just over the fence, but close enough for a photo.
