Description

Mobbs Hill TS3144R

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Mobbs Hill.

Serial number is: TS3144R.

Last Inspected on: 1976.

Elevation is: 145 metres.

This trig is on top of a water tower on Marsden Road, Carlingford - an area historically known as Mobbs Hill. No direct access but photo is possible from the footpath.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

It's been a few weeks since I've logged a GCA cache. Spotted the trig on my way past today and took a quick snap. Wondered if this would be a trig cache and sure enough it is.

After going to the Geocaching NSW AGM nearby I stopped by to photograph this reservoir trig. Not many places to pull over tho. Nice day for it.

23-Jun-12
On the way to the Geo 101 event, down the road in Carlingford, I made a detour to see this trig. The vanes are prtly read, but I suspect that's exposed undercoat showing they don't get maintained much now. Easily visible from Marsden Rd.

10-Aug-11
Heading home from a day out riding - I needed a nature stop. Parked across the road and spied the trig. Nice ONe, although another water tower.

07-Aug-11
With a bit of spare time before the Geocaching NSW event nearby I finally was able to stop and grab a pic of this one.

Wal

04-Jul-11
Heading to Galston today, I passed one earlier down the hill with no spoace to stop, so missed it today, however this one was easy to stop for, and I also noted there was a night cache right at the carpark and that I was returning in the dark, so i managed to stop and find the night cache on the way home too.

Second Trig for the day, nice red vanes, well they were all red once upon a time, now the paint is peeling off. But still a nice find on top of the local reservoir. Interesting to see that some vanes are made from galvanized steel and other from mild steel which will rust very quickly once the paint wears off.

08-Jan-11
Found this trig while on my trip around Sydney today. I pulled into the lookout on Marsden Rd to get the shot for this one.

22-Dec-10
Came by on the way to help out a mate move and saw this one. Knew I'd be back here tonight to finally get By Gum and try the Bright Eyes cache, but needed to take this pic in daylight. Stopped around the corner off Marsden and walked back up. Some of these are easier to get at then others. Another *snap* and time to move on.

Another DBT Bights the dust. Came up here to keep the streak (mmmmmm Steak....) going at "By Gum"... so snapped this up while I was at it! I can recommend the Bright Eyes Cache nearby, good fun at night! Very Happy

21-Oct-10
Stopped near one of the Carlingford shopping centres off Marsden Road today while driving back to work after logging 'Flood Plain' during my lunch hour. Walked around on the footpath to try to get the best view, when I noticed 10 (count 'em) police cars, both marked and unmarked, parked across the street, with some kind of serious-looking police conference taking place in the car park. Trying to look completely innocent while performing my weird task, I snapped a few photos of the trigpoint over the chainlink fence and left as nonchalantly as possible!

04-Oct-10
Nice easy find. Good views from across the road with plenty of parking.

18-Sep-10

Thanks Yurt, 2nd for the day.

29-Jul-10
You can park across the road and enjoy the view south across Sydney. The start of the GC cache "Bright Eyes Night Cache" (http://coord.info/GC1VX85) is here. *FTF* if that counts.
