Description
Awesome views at a Trig Near Byron Bay
Coopers Shoot Trig
I do not believe you can access the Trig itself as it appears to be on private land. However, you can get close on the nearby Coopers Shoot Road and the Trig is plain to see. It may be a little more then the recommended 50m away but I hope you agree the stunning views over Byron Bay and the Surrounds this location offers more then justifies this Trig Point being listed. On a clear day you can see for miles and miles including Mt Warning and Cape Byron. There is another closer vantage on Bangalow Road which is within 50m but the views are nowhere near as good. Co-Ords for the Point are approximate as obviously I couldnt take a reading and had to use Google Maps.
I looked up the Geoscience Australia site but have been unable to find the official lisiting. If someone comes up with a result here that would be great!

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

addit - driving past today, we stopped and took a pic with our Panasonic Lumix zoom... our 'trig camera'..
The trig is located on private land behind a fence but can be seen clearly from the road. It is a beautiful sunny day with views of Byron Bay looking towards the lighthouse. The sea a stunning shade of blue and grass a vivid shade of lush green. Thanks for trig.
Note: Error loading pic through app. Pic lost.

This one is a paddock with a big No Trespass sign on the gate.....so the photo was snapped from there.
Thanks for yet another trig...
A minor track leads out to the trig, from a simple gate, with a "PRIVATE PROPERTY - No Trespassing" sign on it.
Being the KEEN trig hunter, that I am, I was prepared to take a walk in the wet grass, and see if there was a name plate on the concrete pedestal, that I could see on a zoomed photo from the fence line.
Unfortunately there is only the place where one has been dug out. The white pole and the black semi-circular vanes had been removed, and were lying in the grass, on the ocean side of the hill.
I took a few photos, and headed back.
Staying in Byron Bay for a few days and today we took the kids out for a look at the sights, found some caches and some waymarks.

Couldn't get to this one, could see it in the distance, no cowshit smell today, lots of traffic to make you nervous by the side of a road, LOL!
In years past the mentioned owner opened his property to the Regions scouts, which used the property for a yearly scout jamboree which brought cubs, scouts, guides from all over the regions to this property for a 3 days event.
Looks like a track is maintained to the trig point.
