A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Have driven past this hundreds of times. Passed by again on my way to get a Xmas tree .

12-Aug-18
We drove past this chasing an Earthcache, so doubled back this way afterwards, parked outside the barracks and walked back.

05-Jan-18
Headed to Sydney with fitzy_1965 for a weekend away to grab some rarer GC caches and as many trigs as we could.

Fitzy thought it was weird that this wasn’t showing up on his GPS. Turns out he had already found it. Glad we stopped to snap it regardless.

Nice easy drive by for the start of Boxing Day.

09-Aug-15
I was on my way to the Mobbs Hill Trig when I saw this one. Had to pull over and take a walk in the park.

28-Jun-15
Saw this trig as I was driving by going further south, so pulled into a side street and walked back to photograph it.
Got a zoomed in shot, as well as a 'selfie'

#GA501 - 16:35; In Sydney with Sol de lune, fitzy_1965 and toyhunters for the ' Let's Party - Come Celebrate Australia's First' event and on the way home we were collecting a few caches along the way. After a bit of a tour around Homebush, we headed in this direction to grab the nearby eartchcache and stopped to bag the trig on the way past. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1075 - 10549 overall cache finds.

Found during a run up to the big Lane Cove Event with Sol de Lune, Toy Hunters and LuckyL10n when we decided to grab a bunch of trigs as well. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especialy the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted.

Thanks Geocaching Australia !

Found with Sol de Lune, fitzy_1965 and LuckyL10n on our trip to Lane Cove for the birthday event. A lovely trig in a great area, to stop for a quick rest and stretch. TFTC GCA!

Heading home and stopped by this one for a quick photo....easy park around the corner and short walk back....before heading off for another Earthcache....

I was trying to find a way to the nearby GC cache (unsuccessfully), and spotted the trig at the top of the road, so decided to grab a quick photo. TFTT

Pouring rain today but it let up long enough for me to drive around the block a few times then walk back.
I got the shots and wiped the drizzle off the lens.
One only trig for my visit to Sydney

13-Dec-11
Heading to a gig at Hornsby today, I finally had time to pause and grab a pic of this trig. Normally I am in traffic and cannot manage a stop.
Easy to find and easy to snap a piccie of today.

04-Nov-11
Found on the way to a business meeting this afternoon.

19-May-11
My last cache for the day, time to head back to the office as lunchbreak is over. Parked in King St and grabbed a pic from the footpath outside the army barracks (somewhat self consciously!).
cheers,
Wal

Late afternoon drive to try and spot this Trig. I drove past it and then turned around and parked. Walked back to get a good photo. Done !

14-Apr-11
Found it today, after a last minute decision to go for it as I was in West Ryde! After a short Train trip to Eastwood and a 6km return walk I was back at the station ready to go back home.
A nice trig that seems to be still in the grey undercoat.

A trig not at the top of the hill; zooming past and thought I'd stop

22-Jan-11
Spotted the trig while on the way to another cache. Thanks.

08-Jan-11
Found this trig while on my trip around Sydney today. Found this one but finding a spot to take the photo proved tough. I ended up pulling up on Kissing Point Road to take a shot.

16-Dec-10
Needed a cache find for 16/12, and luckily had left a couple of local trigpoints as backup. Found in fading light at 7:40pm after a busy day before a trip to Perth tomorrow to try and get something installed before Christmas. Unluckily the fading light meant the camera focus didn't work that well, but it's another day ticked off the list!

26-Nov-10
Was in a bit of a bad mood this afternoon but headed out caching to clear the head. The Trig looked pretty in the late afternoon sun, even for a DB Res Trig. Parked on the street next to the park and walked up next to it through a flock of Galahs and Sulphur Crested Cockys. Argh... that's better!

02-Nov-10
Must have come along just after pjmpjm. Stopped in King St and thought it was high time I logged this one seeing as I published after a drive-by spotting a while ago. A nice walk through the park where I'm sure we'll see a cache sooner rather than later. Easy to get a shot of the prominent trig structure, unlike some others lately.

02-Nov-10
I pulled up in the driveway of a vacant lot on Stewart Street and took my first photos of the trig from the footpath, then continued on and turned into King Street. I was able to park alongside the street there and walked across the little park for a slightly better photo from the other side of the tank. Photos uploaded in about two hours.

14-Oct-10
Nice easy find. Parking available just around the corner and then a nice short stroll through the park.

18-Sep-10
Tricky to get a photo of this trig - both with parking and the angle of the photo. A decent park next door.

17-Sep-10
Found it - took a pix attached Shocked

20-Aug-10
What better way to end the week than to have a Yurt cache as a FTF and for that to be my 500th GC and GCA cache.
I have driven passed here many times and never really noticed the trig on the water tower.
Thanks Yurt for another cache. Now off to Mobbs Hill.
