Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station and photograph the GZ.

Official Code: TS7358R
Official Name: Finley

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I had to stop in Finley for a vanilla slice which meant that I had to stop here for this trig point. WinkLaughing With the vanilla slice duly consumed (and it wasn't bad either Wink), it was off to this one for the obligatory pickie at 14:55. Very Happy

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

Lots of autumn trees on the way in and they made a pretty view of the water tanks. Then I went to photograph the trig. TFTC.

My husband and I are on our way home to Melbourne, after a holiday in the Gold Coast and Cairns. We are now less than 300km from home and my muggle husband wants to get home before the forecast rain and wind hits us. He graciously slowed down as we passed this trig so I could take a drive-by photo.

The drive from the Walla Walla trig to the Finley trig was the longest leg of our journey today. We enjoyed our trip through the countryside where the grain crops were ripening rapidly. We were glad that there was a smattering of caches to find on the way as this helped breakup the journey.

We were glad we did not have to walk far to locate this trig as the temperature had risen to twenty eight degrees.

This was another silo top trig that was easily located though this type is not easy to photograph

A photo has been added to the gallery

Finley is in the Berrigan zone so this gave us our second Dragon Zone for the day.

On our way south on our way to Alexandra via Moree, Dubbo, Shepparton, Bendigo, Canberra and then finally Alexandra. Doing as many as we can as I have to drive for three hours from Nannango to find GA hides away from home. As I am literally just cruising past GA hides on the way south taking the opportunity to be choosy for a change. Next one for the trip. TFTC GCA Clan MinotaurClappingDancingClan Minotaur

#GA1817 - 13:40; Day one of a caching mission to Victoria with Sol de lune. We headed over to Coolamon then south through Jerilderie and Finley before heading west to Deniliquin and then on to Wanganella before heading back through Deni and on to Mathoura, Moama and then Echuca where the caching finished on dark. Grabbed a bite to eat on the way through Bendigo and on to Creswick, which will be home base for the week. Stopped by another water tank trig and grabbed a snap on our way through. Most caches I found were really nice and in good condition, thanks to all the CO for putting them out there! Trip Kiama-down the Hume to Albury/Wodonga-Along the Murray to Cobram-back to NSW and via Hay to Ivanhoe=back down to Griffith-Temora-Yass and home.
