Description

Alexandra TS10881

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Alexandra.

Serial number is: TS10881.

Last Inspected on: October 21, 1987.

Elevation is: 759 metres.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

There is a parking area halfway up via Leopold St. It is then a short walk via a fire trail. There are several walking tracks that will also get you to the fire trail however these are interrupted on many occasions by fallen timber. If you have masochistic tendencies you could then find your way to the cache at Footy Foot Falls.

A trig station typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I’m an infrequent trig hunter but found myself checking out this track for future reference.

I call this 3 for the $ of 1 visit – completed all 3 off here – this trig – waymark & a GC cache BUT also doing a little research found old Alexandra – a plug in rock so an 4 for the $ of 1 visit can’t get better than that – many thanks.

We were up here chasing squids, with a pair of trigs and an ICEM thrown in....
This is a nice trig, with great views too.

Found while out squid hunting with Team Merlin et. al.

04-Jan-23
Out on a caching trip with the GOMs and caught a Squid nearby and was able to grab a photo of the nearby trig whilst there.

After a rather wet walk in the Nattai National Park this morning followed by some retail shopping at Bowral I thought I'd nab a few trigs before heading back to Sydney (plus the sun came out). This was the last one of the day - reached at about 5:30pm.

I had planned to be up here this morning if I didn't sleep in. Instead went and had a great time with friends from decades ago.
Stopped by the rock cairn trig on the way. Trialling the mobile for photos.

Went in search of this Trig Point whilst on the Mountain collection other caches and admiring the view. In good condition. An easy walk into this one.

A nice stroll from the lookout to this one and I was very happy to find a more conventional trig.
Great views of the highway along the way.

28-Feb-15
Second trig today and about 500 metres on from the Katoomba Look out. The track was steep in some parts but a nice walk though the bush. This trig is off the track and is still in very good condition.

On the way up to ICEM Smile

Good that these trig points are quick and simple

Unfound for 64 weeks unlike its sister trig Katoomba Lookout. It's a steep climb down from there but an easy walk after until you leave the fire trail for a 60m climb to the intact trig. As rogerw3 says it's plaque is unusual being on the base rather than the post. I have seen a couple like this on the Central Coast. Good views again. Found a DMR survey mark nearby but couldn't find any sign of an original cairn. The odd rock in the right shape but nothing to say it was a cairn.

A great walk from the Katoomba lookout carpark. Although a steep climb on the firetrail, it is well worth the effort! Expectected a trail or path all the way to the trig, but had to go bush for the last 70 m, no problem!

Found with blossom* on a lovely late-afternoon walk up the top of these mountains

26-Aug-12
We came up here late today for a nice walk along the fire trail. Wow, I hadn't remembered quite how steep these hills were! Shold be heaps of waratahs out in just amonth or so but today we only saw the plants.

16-Aug-12
A long (very long) train trip from Lithgow to get to this Trig. A nice walk up the hill mind you it is quite steep but the Trig is there waiting for you, unusual in that the name plaque is set in concrete in front of the steel post, the mast and vanes are still in great condition.

Drove up the steep road off Leopold St and parked in a dirt car park, close to GC cache "The Crag" (GCYMG5). From there an easy 800m or so walk to GZ. For a trig quite hard to spot, nearly on top of it before it appeared...Views from the trig not good but there is a nice lookout nearby (called Katoomba I think) with good views of the Highway below.

30-Sep-11
I parked the UAV at the lake then made my way up via the usual tracks. These however were almost impassable in places due to fallen trees, limbs & branches (& here's me walking under trees on a wild & woolly day). Eventually got to the fire trail & from there it was an easy walk to the trig. Good views a little bit back of the Hume. Took the easy way on the return. Waratahs are in flower all along the tracks.

10-Sep-11
Was walking in the area today and thought id try to find this one. I was walking to where the listed coordinates said gz was. I got to 18 meters away from these and spotted the trig. Hooray first up here, great views nearby

18-Sep-10
I went for a walk up here yesterday but forgot my topo. Met a group of bush walkers who were looking for Footy Foot Falls but when they couldn't find the track came up here for a look. As usual found the bush track on the way back down.
