Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA5142 - 11:05; Day two of a road trip with Sol de lune as we head north for the CacheQLD - Dayboro Mega. After spending the night in Narrabri we stopped for a couple of local caches/trigs before setting off for Yarrie Lake for a short tour, then heading north for Moree, across the border at Goondawindi and on to Toowoomba for a couple of days. Stopped in Gurley on our way up the highway for a cache and for me to get a snap of this trig, which Sdl had logged on a previous adventure. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

So many trigs found today that I always worry that I'll match the wrong photo to the log. No problem with this one though with the Fishabout Moree sign on the silo.
Our GPS did indicate that the trig was going to be on the left as we approached from the south but there was no trig there so I guess this is it.
Thanks.

Day 2 of our trip from Melbourne to Cairns. We left Ardlethan this morning and stayed at Moree tonight.
Last night I discovered that Trig Points were not displaying on my GPSr even though I had loaded them. Today I had fun, while being a back-seat passenger pointing out the Trig Points along our route.
It was 34C outside the car when we arrived here and my husband graciously stopped so that I could take a photo. It would have been too much to expect him to allow me time to include myself in the photo.
He was eager to get to Moree before dinner.

Came up to QLD to pick something up today with MrGT. I was his driving assistant and talking buddy. haha. Was a long drive and long day. He was kind enough to let me do a little caching before/while heading back home. Smile

Stopped to do a multi here and then thought we were looking at the wrong info, so didn't find the traditional cache, but did find this trig. Smile

Day 3 of our journey to Alexandra. Left Nanango Qld on Monday and stayed overnight in Moree. Left Moree early on Tuesday and now it is Wednesday and we are staying in Dubbo till Friday. Collecting GCA hides on the way south as this is the perfect time for me to increase my finds for GCA and my Dragon Zone points. Saw this ne from the highway and easy to take the required picture. A couple here - this one in evidence beside the highway.

Found while driving south towards home. Finding the trig point seemed like a good idea for a break and a walk around and an appreciation of just how flat most of Australia is. As usual I marveled at the surveyors who mapped western NSW before the silos and the trig points were constructed, just what did they measure from.

22-Sep-13
Somehow managed to wipe off all the GA caches from the GPS so it was up to visual searching. Passing through from Moree to Narrabri we spotted this trig ... not too hard being smack bang next to the highway.

18-Jun-12
This morning we travelled from Narrabri to Goondiwindi and along the way we came across six elevated trig points mounted on water towers or grain silos. This was one of the trig points we found. The photo added to the Gallery contains two images: the first is of one of us with the trig point in the background; the second image is a closer view of the trig point marker. TFTC

On our way into Moree we spotted this one though the coordinates seem a bit out. We managed the coax the last remaining battery out of the camera to get this low light picture.

Had fun doing the trig points on the way to Brisbane. Thanks
