Description

North Penrith New TS10874

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: North Penrith New.

Serial number is: TS10874.

Last Inspected on: July 9, 1985.

Elevation is: 83 metres.

This replaces the old Trig (Penrith North Res) that was on the now demolished adjacent reservoir.

This is on top of the local water reservoir and as such out of bounds, but can be seen from several directions.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape.
Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access. This one 'just' needs permission from the land lessee for access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

Having travelled north to hunt down some GC Challenge caches, I am making my way back south using trig stations as my guide. Thanks for publishing them Geocaching Australia.

We were headed home from a weekend in Katoomba doing some abseiling training, and decided to base the trip across Sydney on trigs, and would see what caches popped up. What a nice red trig. Shot from Glebe Pl, east of the trig....

Out trigging with Sophoutloud today on a mission to take over Penrith. It was a beautiful warm day and we were surprised how many of these trigs had survived the urban expansion of Penrith. They were all found in varying conditions from as perfect as the day they were built to pretty broken and covered in graffiti. We went the hard way around this one and ended up walking the whole way around before being able to get a good shot. Clan Minotaur

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1291 - 14318 overall cache finds.

Found after work today during a work trip up in the Penrith region. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especially the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted. A nice red trig !

Thanks Geocaching Australia !

Not easy to get a good shot of this one but at least there's a GC cache here as well. Got a view from up the hill a bit so I could see the vanes.

03-Jun-13
Large reservoir, and a long stroll around. A higher point for the photo ... seems a new communications tower narrows the field of sight.

19-Feb-13
Was in the area because a new GC cache came up 'Forgotten Walkways'. Parked right next to the water tank. Went to do FTF amd then came back to take a photo up the street. Also found it tricky to take a photo with the trig being so small on the water tank through the fence.

07-Sep-12
After teaching at St Dom's I headed out for a few caches and Trigs. Good to get a blip off the map Razz It might be a Res Trig, but now it is a found one Razz

Was in the area picking up my daughter and she happily came for a few quick caches and Trigs. She actually says she doesn't mind the Trigs, as they are just a photogragh and she doesn't need to get dirty Laughing I drove up the street and Geogirl spotted the nice easy to see red disk. Parked and took the photos. huge water tank this one.

26-Feb-11
Took a few quick detours through Penrith on the way home today to find a couple of trigs in the area. This one was easy to spot from Glebe Place. I walked up into the small park next to the reservoir to get the photos. Nice to see a red one, they do stand out a bit more than the black ones. And being a redhead myself, I have a small bias towards them Very Happy .

09-Jan-11
Easily found, although not easy to reach out towards. You need to be some distance away to see the trig point. Will upload photos soon.

05-Jan-11
Located inside Kanagra Reserve, the big reservoir is very easy to find. I got a decent spot from which to take a photo on Glebe Parade. Was pleased to see that this is a nice red trig.

12-Dec-10

30-Sep-10
Quick find while avoiding doing the shopping!?!

24-Sep-10
Found it Geocaching in the area. Not a hard find, but a bit tricky to find the right angle to get a good picture of this trig.
