Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We were making the most of a good weather forecast and going to spend a few days bushwalking near Lake StClair and collected a few caches on the journey there and back.

29-Dec-15
We decided on a family drive in perfect weather. Leaving around 0930, we went up through the midlands and turned off at Oatlands (we chose this road rather than the one at Tunbridge because the egg had not driven this road before) to head through to Interlaken, then onto Great Lake and Miena, continuing on the Marlborough Road to Bronte Park and then home via Tarraleah followed by a well earned pub meal at Ouse. We arrived home at 2215 after a wonderful day.
With a left turn here we felt like we were starting to head home. Took a couple of quick proof photos and moved on. TFTC

04-Nov-12
It is much more convenient when trig points are placed right near roads (or when roads pass right by trig points) rather than having to walk up big hills to find them Razz

Found on our Tassie Caching Adventure with DazzPete. GeoD happened to notice this one on our travels & as we had downloaded all trigs from GCA we knew this one hadn't been listed. So it was a quick U-Turn back & we decided that this one needed to be listed, being so close to a major thoroughfare Laughing . Thanks to DazzPete for their efforts in logging this one. Cheers

Bronte Has always been one of my favourite places to fish.
We have spent many an early morning and late evening wading the shores and many a night telling the yarns and drinking with the locals at the nearby Bronte Pub Cool

Ive spotted this trig in the past but left it thinking it may have been on private property but now that dazzpete has gone to the trouble of listing it then I happy to log it Very Happy

Late afternoon when I was there (perfect fishing time)and the sunset was beautiful
Thanks for the cache dazzpete
