Description

Skillion TS10593

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Skillion.

Serial number is: TS10593.

Last Inspected on: June 8, 1978.

Elevation is: 41 metres.

Nice walk up all the steps to a viewing area - trig is centre stage.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

The most prominent feature of Terrigal is the headland, known as Broken Head, just over the hill from the main shopping strip. What makes it distinctive is 'The Skillion' on the southern side (called Kurawyba by the Awabakal Aborigines). This narrow section of the headland rises dramatically and it's a short but steep walk to the top where the view is worth the climb and that's where you'll find this trig point.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

Logs

Wandering around the coast checking out the views I kept stumbling onto trigs like this one. Just made my day of playing tourist a bit more interesting. Smile

nice day for it

Youngest geokid and I on our visit to the Skillion this evening wondered if it were possible that we've missed logging this trig after all this time as we hadn't really remembered ever doing it. Sure enough that is a big negatory. So here we are enjoying a cloudy sunset on a balmy December evening with our log. Trig in surprisingly good condish for all the muggle activity it sees. Even the plaque is still in tact and the vanes are in pretty good condition overall. TFTC.

Walked up to this highly visible trig on a overcast afternoon, in the belief that the weather would keep most of the crowds away. This met with partial success.

Nice views from up here and a well maintained trig point.

Great day to be out exploring the coast on the bike. Such an awesome lookout and not to busy today

Second day of caching at the central coast. Today it's Terrigal and Boudhi national Park. A bit more overcast, but still warm and humid. Early start makes it easier for sure.

what an awesome view

10-Feb-21
A good walk up the steps was needed, being passed by a large number of boot campers carrying ropes. The Trig Point is not hard to find, you just have to wait until the tourists move.

07-Nov-20
sent Dave up there as we use this one account to log GA's

30-Aug-20
Went to Terrigal today for a walk and to find Opa Shrek's lab caches. I've been up here many times before and even have taken photos with the trig, but my personal rule is I can't log it unless I have taken a photo intentionally with the aim of logging the trig. So today I got the photo. Cheers! Very HappyClappingDancingClan Cerberus

I popped down to Terrigal this morning to suss out locations for an upcoming geocaching adventure and thought, unusually for me, to look up whether I'd be near any GA caches while there. I figured there would be a cache up here on top of the Skillion and was delighted to see the trig when I was walking towards the pathway to go. Took a couple of photos when I was up there but then went and forgot to take a selfie ... so these photos that prove I was there will have to do.

Out for brekky at Wamberal surf club and then a drive around the area.

Yep the skillion is just as I remember it when we went ice-blocking down here in the 90's it was a miracle no one ended up in ER, the lookout has been upgraded since then.

Spotted from the ground whilst caching around the Skillion - that walk is a heart starter....

19-Jul-19
We trudged up the skillion with dog, meeting many others as is was great sunny day.
Lovely views, no whales today, they're likely coming back down the coast in a few months.
Pic included.

15-Dec-18
was going to dinner nearby

Out and about caching in the area and found this trig. The required photo has been added to the gallery. Top views from the lookout. My favourite trig of our trip so far. TFTT

Found on our 4WDing/camping adventure. Impressive view from an accessible location.

11-Aug-15
We took the extended family to Terrigal for a special Big Number birthday celebration. We managed to get all 15 of the group (never easy) to go for a walk to the top of the Skillion. Everyone enjoyed the view, and a number got involved in solving the nearby GC mystery. After we returned down to the bottom a small subset of the group played with my brother's drone, trying not to crash it into the cliff or the rugby players. TFTT

Found about 3:08pm with Doc Who. We were out doing a caching run and I was keen to do a couple if GCA ones and were passing this one so why not. The area keeps on being further and further landscaped and gentrified. The Trig here seems to have pride of place in the viewing platform. It's in good condition. Took some shots and enjoyed the view..

Found with MrDamage on a quick maintenance trip and doing a few GA caches. Nice clean view today, despite blustery rainy conditions, it was actually warm!

01-May-14
Was here to complete a nearby multi but stopped by to enjoy the amazing view and grab this trig. A great spot - so glad the work conference ended up here and brought me to a part of the country I'd probably never have considered coming to myself. Great stuff...

22-Mar-14
On a Terrigal Dive trip weekend, I walked over to this trig from the dive center. I was happy it involved an actual hill, and the view off the coast was phenomenal. Thanks

Great view

13-Feb-14
And why wouldn't they put a trig here? Awesome spot.

27-Jan-14
This was our 8th and last trig for the day and was our 300th trig find. It's almost a tourist attraction sitting there proudly at the lookout at the top of all those stairs. Easiest find of the day and great views. Looks like this one gets the odd coat of paint.

I Love SS-BJC and trigs

Walked up to this trig after finding a nearby GC cache.

I found this Trig Point at the top of the Skillion but it wasn't listed on GCA. Now it is! Great view from up here and they're making a new walkway to the top which ought to be finished soon.
