Description

Dora TS1857

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Dora.

Serial number is: TS1857.

Last Inspected on: February 22, 1990.

Elevation is: 52.110 metres.

Nice easy to find Trig has the name Dora on it.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

We ducked out into the western lake areas for some trigs this afternoon, grabbing 5 in beautiful weather, even snared a GC trad whilst we were out....
This poor trig is in a state, it looks like it was backed into by a bulldozer....

Another day of trig hunting around the west side of the lake. Cloudy and wet start to the day, but turned out a beautiful sunny winters day

10-Apr-19
Drove to the site and walked a small hill to find the trig next to the water tank.

With a day off, what better way to spend it than to get out and find some unfound trigs. Thanks GA, love the trigs.

After all the rain that we have had around Sydney over the last few days it has been good to have a bit of nice weather today. Decided on a drive up the Central Coast & Lake Macquarie after some of the trigs along the way where there are a few clumps around. In the end I got to 25 trigs after that there was a long drive and I ended up getting home at about 8pm.
The sixteenth one I looked for was Dora exploring Lake Macquarie
Thanks for the trig took the required photo

Our last find for the weekend before heading south to Sydney. I see from previous photos that this was a 'grander' trig point a few years ago.

another nice trig that we could drive to

thanks gca for the cache

As odd as it sounds, a trig on a hill in Lake Macquarie is the exception to the rule (the vast majority are on or near the water). This one was up near a water tower, and although a chunk of it had crumbled off, it was stable enough for me to stand on, wearing a skirt, so I could tick off the Netball challenge in GeosportZ 2018.

Oh yes. This one. Well... with the dragon zone GeosportZ games having only just begun this morning, and me living in a remote place with no geocaches left to find for miles and miles, ziggiau and I decided to knock off as many challenges as we could. So this one got the 'skirt' treatment for the netball challenge. I DON'T WEAR SKIRTS. And I'm sure there are a lot of male geocachers out there who don't either... well at least not in public. So I lumped ziggiau's skirt over my head and she snapped the shot necessary for the challenge. Urgh. skirts are a silly invention. If they were a good one, males would all be wearing them too. No, they got to move from tunics to pants and women had to stay in the stupid tunics. I think it could be a conspiracy. Skirts and heels - hobbles if you ask me. Hmmmm

The event this weekend was my first Mega and I really enjoyed it. Found plenty of geocaches and met lots of geocachers. This cache was one of my finds. Ziggiau drove while I tried to navigate and research our next location at the same time. haha.

#GA2644 - 08:35; Day three of the 2018 Oz Geomuster mission with Sol de lune. After a day hitting the geoart trail put out for the muster with Sdl and albida33 yesterday, today was all about finding GCA caches and perhaps picking up a dragonZone or two in the process. The plan for the day was to start in Morisset (naturally enough), work our way around Lake Macquarie and in to Newcastle, then on to Maitland and Abermain before heading back to camp. There had been a change of plans when there was a heavy overnight fog which left our tarps quite wet, so we decided to hit the trail, then return to camp to collect our swags once things had dried out later in the day, before heading for points north. Next of many stops as we worked our way around the lake today. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Day three of an Easter trip with LuckyL10n to the 2018 Morisset Mega. Headed up via the northern beach suburbs of Sydney to grab a few trigs and dragonZones along the way. From there it was a trip around the lake to find a good assortment of trigs. A great day out while heading further north.

No problems with this one and the trig was soon spotted.

Another trig and another dragonZone crossed off. Thanks for the fun....

We had been grabbing a few trigs beside the lake before we got to this one. This is more like the trigs we are used to being on higher ground. What is left of the cement stand is a bit sad and starting to fall apart. Thanks.

Easy to get but unfortunately it's just a base now.

Found it while staying at The Entrance..
Enjoy caching around here.
thanks

Always nice to see a Trig complete with the mast, vanes and name plaque. This one is now overshadowed by the new reservoir.
Very easy to get to and find.

Found this one today whilst touring around the area. A nice easy drive by trig.

There has been a fire nearby today with some big plumes of smoke.

I would say I was out driving with spikeymikey, however one can't actually call it driving, it's more like survival by avoidance.....avoiding anything and everything on and off the road.

Got a nice photo out of this.....that is, the trig plate came up good in the pic.

07-Feb-11
Out caching with TheHeadChef and we came across this trig.

07-Jan-11
Went out to Mirrabooka to visit Dora today.
This seems like a very big head on this trig.
