Description

Pitt Town TS3749

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Pitt Town.

Serial number is: TS3749.

Last Inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 45 metres.

This typical trig is located on top of a small to medium sized greenish water tower on legs, situated very close to Hall Street near the intersection of Punt Road, in Pitt Town -- not far from the Hawkesbury River. It's very easy to see and you can approach right up close to it. There's a standard chain link fence surrounding the site.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Took the opportunity to come here for a look while in Pitt Town today doing the Macquarie Towns AL. Unfortunately, there is nothing to see anymore ... the water tower has been knocked down leaving just bare dirt behind Syney Water's barbed wire enclosure.

While it was bucketing down with rain today both myself and Sophoutloud needed a good excuse to get out of the house, we plotted some more urban trigs that were close to road ways so we didn't have to spend to much time out in the rain. another one way up on a water tank but you can get pretty close to this one Clan MinotaurClan Minotaur

Weekend camping in the Cattai. Had a great few nights. Not much time for caching as with muggle friends but picked this one up!

17-Mar-16
Stopped on the corner of Hall St with both the reservoir and trig standouts to see. Seemed a good a place as any to photograph but one suspects the trig could be seen from some distance afar.

The last of 3 opportunistic trigs today. That it, trigs I spotted as we drove towards our caching destination for the day. This one I spotted as we were heading towards the Vroom Blub Blub cache. Interesting as it looks slightly different to most of the reservoir trigs.

Found together with pjmpjm and GazMag on a day-long Geocaching and trig hunting expedition in the Kurrajong/North Richmond/Windsor areas.
Unusual light brown colored Trig, otherwise typical of reservoir trigs, a steel frame with mast and vanes over a steel post.

Easy spot on a ride out from Pitt Town.

29-Apr-11
I loaded a batch of trigs from GSAK just before heading down the road to find this, only to NOT have them show in the GPS.
Luckily this tower is easy to find just using the name, abd I was able to grab a pic. Not a great pic though, as the camera battery was dead flat, and the phonecam is very basic - but just eough for such a pic.
(the lump at the bottom of the pic is the GPSr).
It was just on Dawn, so there is a touch of colour in the sky.

19-Feb-11

29-Oct-10
Spotted this one while driving to the nearby GC cache on the banks of the Hawkesbury River. I parked right next to it, on Hall Street, and had a chance to look at over at close range, with only a chain link fence in-between. It's not a very large tank, and green in colour. When I got down to the Hawkesbury via Punt Road, this water tank's trig was very evident --a good prominent position.
