Description

Oakville TS10424

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Oakville.

Serial number is: TS10424.

Last inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 87 meters.

This yellow-coloured trig is located on top of a medium sized greenish water tower with legs, between Old Pitt Town Road and Boundary Road, Box Hill (just south of Pitt Town). It's set back a bit from both roads and surrounded by a fence. There is an unobstructed but somewhat distant view from Boundary Road.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

After an epic day out yesterday paddling the Colo River we’re heading home across Sydney, stopping for interesting caches as we go. We were with Mighty Minions, chasing reasonable D:T caches and of course trigs... We ended up towing the trailer through Galston Gorge - we won't forget that soon....
Nice reservoir trig here...

headed out with Outdoornut22 to bag a few quick trigs on a very rainy day but we needed to get out of the house. Another we had to view from a distance but nice and easy to spot

While it was bucketing down with rain today both myself and Sophoutloud needed a good excuse to get out of the house, we plotted some more urban trigs that were close to road ways so we didn't have to spend to much time out in the rain. easy to spot but you can't get very close at all. Spotted the trig while driving around in the area while following cars along side roads not knowing where it would take me. Stopped on one corner to find out where I was by using Geocaching Australia map, as you do, and found I was close to this trig. Drove up the road that I was on and with trees around & looking into the sun wasn't going to get a good photo. So tried the other road but there was roadwork nearby. Parked on the side of the road and took the photo. Thanks for the trig

I don't remember finding this trig back in the 1980's, tho I had found the OTU one then.
Stopped a couple of times trying to find the best place to take a decent photo. A bit hard with all of the trees around it.

Long time between drinks for this one...

1st one for the day while in the area while my wife was horse shopping. My interest is cheaper...and more fun I think...but I can say that as she does't read my logs!!

Grabbed the photo and then off to the next one.

Close to the O.T.U. Trig, I saw that this one was just down the road. Drove along and spied it from a distance. Since it was on private propery, I stopped by the road and took some distance shots. Very Happy

Very nice red trig on top of this unusual steel reservoir, great view from the road but a few meters up the driveway gives a better result. Worth the stop just for the structure.

On my way back to work I saw this one off in the paddocks near Box Hill or Nelson. It's visible from Old Pitt Town Road but I later found that you can get a good view from Boundary Road as well. I couldn't find an easy way to get closer without obvious trespassing. The trig seems to be yellow or yellowish-orange in colour.
