Description

Brokers Nose TS1171

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Brokers Nose.

Serial number is: TS1171.

Last Inspected on: July 12, 2000.

Elevation is: 440 metres.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

Found while collecting the caches on the Illawarra Escarpment trail. Great views from here

With a group of cachers doing the Escarpment Series that came close to the trig. Of all the places we saw along the walk the trig had the best view.

Found on our tour of Wollongong and surrounds - Mr Morris was part of a group hiking the escarpment trail

Team MavEtJu suggested I have a go at the Illawarra Escarpment series so we dropped in to pick up this trig along the way. Sadly, very graffitied, but the magnificent views make up for it.

I was down in Wollongong to do some gigs & I had a few hours to kill so I've had my eye on the Illawarra Upper Escarpment series for a while. I did 1-10 before I started to run out of time (took me about 3 hours) & had to get back to Wollongong.

Great viewpoint.

A second day seeking trigs with rogerw3 along the 'gong escarpment.

A gate park with a reasonable walk out to Brokers Nose. Just past the heavily electrified communications compound the trig is sans mast, vanes and nameplate. Given its location, why the graffiti? 'tis a long way up on the escarpment to be seen. Well worth the walk for the grand view, and a sunny, windless day gave the opportunity for a memorable photo ... though the 'mushroom was careful to not take a step back!

Found today with Whitemushroom on Trig tour.

A nice walk and some great views but take care it is a long way down! Sadly the name plaque has been taken.

We passed this one in December last year. Now I admit that I made more photos from the radio towers than from the trig, this one was made while standing on the trig stand Smile

A little wet today but it was worth the walk. Great views from the trig north and south. I was in shorts and picked up quite a few leeches around my ankles. Also grabbed one of the many caches along the way.

Redmond Barry and I decided to hit the nearby trail today and we met up with Rainbow Spirit along the way. Came out to this one and spotted the trig. I forgot to take a photo, but fortunately RB took a photo of RS and me, so I can still claim this one! Smile TFTC.
