Description

Baulkham Hills TS788

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Baulkham Hills.

Serial number is: TS788.

Last Inspected on: 1977.

This standard black trig is located on top of a green water tower in a residential area, visible from Bogan Avenue in Baulkham Hills.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Another day another trig. This time in the hills district going to see new places new things. we decided to sneak up the driveway of the services driveway, and managed to grab a quick photo, don't know that we pleased all the neighbours but it was cool to be part of the neighbourhood for a moment.

another day in the hills district exploring and finding places I haven't been before, that's one of the great things about geocaching. today we came up with 4 trigs most of which were easy to get to and then quite challenging to see clearly. this one was the easiest of the day as we were able to drive right up to the gate (although we got some strange looks from the neighbours) and stop at the gate to get a quick and easy photo. we reckon having a water tank for a neighbour would be a nice quiet option Very Happy

It couldn’t get any easier than this 1 – parked & shot – many thanks

It was late in the day when we arrived at the Baulkham Hills Reservoir. Thankfully the trig point was located quickly and the required photo taken. The photo has been added to the Gallery. Thanks for the cache.

#GA1292 - 19:00; Day 2 of a Sydney caching mission with Sol de lune. It had been a long day, but there was time for a couple more finds on our way back to the motorway and the trip back to our bunker in Bowral. Found the right spot and got a snap or two before heading on to the next one. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Found this Trig while out and about.

We knew were this trig was located having been here (pre-Trig days) chasing a GC cache. Nice easy drive pass as we took the photo from the car.

Stopped and pulled up the entry road between the houses and soon had the photo under control. No problems and I was back on the road.

nice quick find - I had found the geocache ages ago before I started doing GCA ones. TFTC

What looks like a driveway, is actually a street on the map. I came up here for a GC cache and was happy to find a trig. Unfortunately, there are two very loud dogs in the property to the left and I just felt like we were causing a fuss. No GC, but a GCA trig.

07-Jul-13
Was here to look for one of the water tower caches, and spotted the trig while here.

It had to happen sometime, I got around to do this Trig at last. A bit tricky to get a decent view for a good photo, but there it is quite well preserved, typical of the reservoir mounted Trigs around Sydney.

A nice quick drive by here. I was more interested in going to Bogan Avenue.

Quick stop off on the way back from my parents.

It is quite an eye opener when you understand where these structures are located.

A quick trip out to get my 300th, and just couldn't resist another Trig. I drove up looking for this Bogan street pjmpjm and Yurt speak of, but then found the service entrance. Drove right up to the gate and snapped my photo. Came back down and when I drove home again, there was the old Bogan St. Clapping Clever the person that named that one LaughingLaughing

Last trig for the day, one a lot closer to home. Drove up Bogan Ave (wonder if the residents will campaign to have the name changed like in Wahroonga?) and spotted the massive water tank. Not sure I'd like to live right beneath it! Took a shot from there but driving round the block we found a slightly better vantage point but the deed had been done so we stuck with it.

Found this trig while on my trip around Sydney today. I drove up into the driveway of this one only to find it open and some workmen glaring at me. That soon stopped when I took the required photo. They took off, must have thought I was with workcover or something.

21-Nov-10
Found the access road, another fenced off one you can't get too close to. Oh well!

I had to drive around a bit before I got a decent vantage point for a photograph of this one. It looks like it's in Baulkham Hills but apparently is across the boundary line in Crestwood. Anyhow, the location is a residential area just south of Castle Hill and the trig can be photographed from the Bogan Avenue roadside. I'll upload my photo in about an hour.
