Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Hermitage.

Serial number is: TS5452D.

Last Inspected on: February 1, 1983.

Elevation is: 98 metres.

Red Ryde Trig, Goulding Road, Ryde. This red-coloured trig is fastened to the top of a large greenish water tower on Goulding Road, near Lane Cover Road, in Ryde. It can be conveniently viewed from fairly close range from the little park at the end of Byron Avenue.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We saw a few trigs on the way home from our day visiting friends on the Northern Beaches but the afternoon sun made it too hard to take photos of them. Thankfully this one was easier

I came through after the Roger Waters/Pink Floyd concert. It was bang in midnight and all I had was my iphone, which was full of concert videos and photos. Trust me, that circular looking thing in the centre of the photo is the disc on the trig. I promise!

08-Jul-17
Drove past here after dark.

11-Jan-17
Collected a few trigs while on a work trip to Sydney. This was one and a nice pretty red one!!!

16-Aug-15
Can't get close enough to get photo of me and GPS that shows trig point as anything more than a tiny round point on a pole in the distance.

19-Jul-15
Wasn't planning on logging this today but ended up walking right past it by fluke on the way home from elsewhere. There's something mighty sus about taking photos of public utilities through a barbed wire topped fence though.

11-Jun-15
A dZ attack today had me finding this one.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1070 - 10534 overall cache finds.

Found during a run up to the big Lane Cove Event with Sol de Lune, Toy Hunters and LuckyL10n when we decided to grab a bunch of trigs as well. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especialy the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted.

Thanks Geocaching Australia !

#GA493 - 13:25; The day had arrived and it was up at sparrows to join toyhunters, fitzy_1965 and Sol de lune for a trip to Sydney for the 'Let's Party - Come Celebrate Australia's First' Event. After the early start we had plenty of time, so we grabbed three trigs on the way in. The event was drawing to a close, so our intrepid band headed off, but had allowed time for a few more finds on the way home, including this one. I can't understand why it had gone nearly three years without a find until the team showed up today Think TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Found with Sol de Lune, fitzy_1965 and LuckyL10n on our trip to Lane Cove for the birthday event. A lovely trig in a great area, to stop for a quick rest and stretch. TFTC GCA!

An easy spot and grab as we drove past heading for the nearby earthcache. I like the red ones...but do they go any faster?

20-Jun-12
Yey! Our first Trig! And it is the closest to where we live, almost a walking distance. Interesting, we may check out all trigs in this area.

On the way between 1 shop & another, this was along the way, trig very easily seen; taking a photo without the trees was very challenging indeed. Thanks.

Very nice and clean red Trig, almost looks like it was painted yesterday! Easy to spot and get a great shot from the footpath across the street.

number 6 trig for the day on the way home from Mona Vale.
The pic shows it nicely framed between the treees.
At least this one stands out more than some.

19-May-11
On a quick drive around today during my lunchbreak and ended up here on the way through.
cheers,

I needed a cache find for today so stopped off on the way home to grab this one. Unfortunately only had the iPhone to take the picture and with the sun setting behind the tower (about 5:30pm) it is rather hard to make out the trig even in the original high res picture.

26-Feb-11
A quick visit on the way to Boronia Park

26-Jan-11
This trig point is on top of a water tank, behind a wire fence bearing dire warnings for trespassers. I have photos from a distance. I am pleased I don't live in a country where I would be breaking some sort of warped patriot law by photographing this kind of thing.

25-Jan-11
Nice quick walk into the park for a photo.

17-Jan-11
While waiting to do a nearby cache, I drove here and snapped a pic on my mobile phone. These just seem to be everywhere, don't they. Will upload soon.

15-Jan-11
After Kathleen Kapers we headed here to a trig I've never seen. Have been past on Goulding Rd many times but not looked this direction. An impressive red vaned trig on top of the water tank. The best angle is the driveway to the tank as you can't stop on the road safely. Took the shot through the gate - check out how many padlocks are on the gate!

14-Jan-11
Spotted while riding around the area looking for caches

07-Dec-10
After some Gnome Gnapping today I drove past this Trig pretty much on the way to yet another Gnome near home. Bright red stands out through the trees and the closest unfound Trig to home falls! Seems like these things are everywhere Wink

04-Dec-10
The official name for this trig is Hermitage, altitude 98 metres as per the NSW Department of Lands

03-Dec-10
Found it lunchtime while Gnome hunting.
It is most unusual to find a colour other than black on a trig.
A nice park here too and a kids playground to keep the kids amused while you find a good place to photograph the Red Spot from.

26-Nov-10
Hard to get a good picture but that red trig certainly stands out.

26-Nov-10
I actually sighted this trigpoint first on Google Earth. I spotted the tell-tale shadow on the top of the large reservoir.

Today I drove over and parked very conveniently at the end of Byron Avenue, where there's a little park.

You can also view the trig from the other side, off Goulding Road.

Love the bright red trigs!
