Description

Ravenswood ST465 Trig Beacon

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to. These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website. If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Usual steel quad trig with white discs.

Access is via the Vermont Road Bushland Park.

#GA891 - 15:25; Back in Tassie on family business, so the opportunity to collect a few more of the local caches was too good to pass up. I dropped the geohoney for a bit of retail therapy and headed off to try for a couple of trigs. I parked further away than I needed to, which also made for a less well beaten track in. It was still a relatively quick find and I soon had the snap I needed before continuing on my way along the ridge. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

20-Jun-15
I left the egg in the car and scrambled up the bank to this trig. Took necessary pics and then wandered the hill line to the next trig.

06-Oct-14
A quick scamper & piccy whilst in the area. This one's a bit more visible than it's opposing number in West L'ton.

20-Apr-14
Found on a caching day in Launceston. Found a cache near here some time ago and back for a couple of trigs today.

15-Jan-14
Great views of Lonnie

12-Jun-12
Found the Ravo trig point while looking for a few other caches in the area.

12-May-12
I came up this way once before looking for the nearby cache that I completely failed to find, so it was good to be able to come back and have a success. There was nice collection of animal hides adorning the ground near the trig, and someone was doing something a bit interesting at the back of a nearby property, so I took the photo and made my exit as promptly as possible.

29-Oct-11
While my wife attended a conference in Launceston I was allowed to go caching for two days in and around the Launceston Area. In the end I managed to go through to Derby and get the icem cache I wanted to find, through to Kayena and check my caches there and clear out the majority of Launceston Traditionals that were actually there. The only one that I failed to get was "Power to the People", where I simply ran out of time.

Photo attached, a further photo will be added when I get back to work!

Drive past this all the time, time to go and get it Very Happy

That dog in the neaby house has a serious attitude problem! Wouldnt want to make him made he would rip your leg off Crying or Very sad ..

22-Sep-11
This was a very easy find today. The view over the nearby houses was rather less attractive. There was one highlight however and that was the two friendly hounds that said hello over the fence.

19-Jun-11
A rewarding find even with the dismal views of the city today due to the rain. I suspect the rain has washed the smell of the dead lobsters, crayfish and wallabies away, I have to wonder why morons leave messes like this on places well worth visiting.

27-Mar-11
The stench of deceased animal all the way to this trig didn't help it's appeal but got there and good views over Launceston.

18-Mar-11
Recent burn off made accessability to this Trig quite easy. Good views of the surrounds. TFTC and cheers; OldSaint.

07-Mar-11
A quick sprint up the hill to an area where we have been before caching. Thanks.

11-Feb-11
Enjoyed a different view of Lonnie

27-Jan-11
A short stroll though the grass had this one in sight, plus socks full of grass seeds

11-Jan-11
Found this one after a gentle stroll to start the morning.

19-Dec-10
There was quite easy access to this area. It was interesting to wander through and see the variety of (unapproved?) uses in this reserve. A well established camp site seems to have existed for quite some time although there wasn't anyone at "home" when we went through. The dogs in the neighbouring houses are certainly very active - it is a wonder that the squatters can sleep with all that racket. The trig was an easy find.

19-Dec-10
A nice short walk to stretch the legs after sitting around waiting for the rain to stop.

06-Dec-10
Well done to the madchilli crew....and hey...looks like we've got a matching pair of canines....you must train him to be more photogenic though...lol. Quick stroll up the rocks to nab this one...top views as well. Many thanks shazcol...Cheers.
