Description

A trig on Nailcan hill water tank

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Brisk walk up the hill swatting flies as I went.

28-Jan-19
We parked the car at the end of Range road and walked up. There were a few mountain bike riders around this morning.

28-Jan-19
We had to find the right dead end to get up to the trig. We only made one error, but got there in the end from the end of Range Road.

03-May-18
After a slog up the hill from Ryan Street we located this trig. Amazing to be 13 m from a trig on top of a water tank. TFTT

10-Apr-18
Up early while cool as a hot day expected. Parked the end of the road and walked a few hundred metres up the hill. Looking in to the morning light for the photo but you can still see the trig.

I came up here in the failing light to make this find.

01-Jul-16
On a walk over Nail Can Hill and noticed the Trig point on top of the water tank.

This was the second of two trigs in Albury. It was a short walk from where I parked the car. Nice to be able to stand on a high side of the tank looking across and down at the trig on top of the tank.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1079 - 10704 overall cache finds.

Found during a run up to the big Lane Cove Event with Sol de Lune, Toy Hunters and LuckyL10n when we decided to grab a bunch of trigs as well. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especialy the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted.

Thanks Geocaching Australia !

Found with LuckyL10n and fitzy_1965 on the way home from a Beechworth weekend. Took the short walk up the hill and soon had the trig in sight. Took the required photo with GPS in the frame and all was good.

#GA527 - 14:50; It was time to head for home after a weekend of caching around Beechworth and Chiltern with Sol de lune and fitzy_1965. On the return journey, we dropped in to Albury to grab a couple of caches on our way through. It's difficult to believe that this readily accessible trig has gone more than 2 years without a find. Oh well, that was rectified today. Need to avoid the mountain bikers riding the trails around this hill, but an easy find. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

06-Apr-12

Today was day two of a massive adventure weekend caching in the Albury Wadonga region as well as incorporating the OZ Mega event. I would be spending most of my time with Team Kwokka (Brother and Sister in Law) as well as my caching mate and partner in crime, SedgwickDave

Today we were to attempt to get the caches in and around Wodonga with most of them being in the surrounding bushland. We were in the area getting a GC.com cache.... The hard way and spotted this Trig point so had to grab a photo. Awesome view.
