Description

Warrimoo TS7252

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Warrimoo.

Serial number is: TS7252.

Last Inspected on: October, 1985.

Elevation is: 312 metres.

This Trig replaces an earlier Trig (TS4663) mounted on the side of the reservoir.

This trig is on top of the Warrimoo Reservoir, but unfortunately only the base of the trig is left. Suggested viewing spot is on Albert Street.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

Came past with my drone and put it up, the base is still there but the rest is gone

28-Aug-20
We found the reservoir but not the trig, so went around the block to the next street as suggested - I think we caught a glimpse of the base in our photo.... we're planning on coming back with a drone!

15-Feb-20
I drove around a number of streets looking for a better view, but couldn't find one. TFTC.

I has just done a cache around the corner so headed to this trig. I looked around but couldn't find a place to see the trig so photographed the structure instead. Then since it was a hot afternoon, headed home. Thanks

Can't tell if that little pole on the top is the trig and if it is, getting any closer would mean you couldn't see it. It appears others had trouble finding it as well so we'll go with what we think.

#GA2354 - 13:00; After weekend caching around the Macquarie region, today I was headed for the hills for a few days with the geohoney relaxing in the Blue Mountains. After collecting a couple of caches closer to sea level, spotted this one along the way up the hill, so stopped off to grab a snap as we passed. Did a couple of laps of the area trying to find the best angle, but in the end stopped near the tank. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

This one easy enough to locate, however incredibly difficult to photograph vane marker on top, through trees etc.
Beautiful day to be caching in the mountains; visiting from Perth WA.

21-Apr-16
Stopped at this location today, My photo is the same as every one else's, the Trig is on top in the middle but unable to find a vantage point to snap a pic of it

22-Feb-15
Trig 3 for today. That's plenty!

19-Mar-14
First one I stopped for on my trip across the Blue Mtns. So many trigs and so little time. This one was a bit disappointing as I couldn't find any way to see the vanes on top. Got a shot of the tank - I guess that's all anyone gets.

Spotting this Trig takes ingenuity, oh, and a read of earlier logs.

18-May-13
Seen on a trig hunt. I think the base is hard to see now.

15-Oct-12
seen while doing a nearby puzzle cache!

22-Jul-12
On a trig run for the geosportz Heptathlon event today with strike-a-light. Very difficult to get this photo as the sun was in the wrong spot.

1st trig of the day on my way up to Blackheath.

24-Feb-12
Getting into the mountains I was following the GCA power trail. Another Trig popped up. *SNAP*

28-Jan-12
GCA 399 - 4750. Sol de Lune and I attempted the Blue Mountains Power Trail this weekend - along with other GC, GCA and trigs caches - a great couple of days !!

Another quick Trig find during I trip through the area doing the power trail.

TFTC !!

Another trig thrown grab in between the BMPT.

This one turned out to be a bit tricky to get a picture of and we drove around the streets trying to get a glimpse of it through the trees. We eventually succeeded and got the required shot.

Used to live only 100 metres from this trig. I actually remember back when I was a lot younger when there was the red markers on top of the trig base. This was going back mid 90's. And the trees have grown a fair bit since then. Better view was western end of Albert Street. Sorry, no photo as the camera battery went flat and camera on the phone was fogged up. I'll get a photo up soon.

I think I saw what was needed. Here is a photo.

I knew this trig Station was there but since i had not been able to get a photo of it I never entered it in the database. However since 'Toriaz' kindly provided the only way to see the Trig base, I went back and got a picture of it so now I can log it as found. I wonder how long it will be before the trees grow to the point where this will no longer be visible. So if you want to log this one get a move on or you may well be too late!

Drove down from Leura today to have a look at this newly discovered (partial) trig in quiet Warrimoo and take some photos.

Many thanks to Toriaz for putting it up on the radar screen. It's my 84th trigpoint!

My coordinates are for the centre of the Victoria Street reservoir.

Toriaz has helpfully provided the coordinates of the nearby viewing spot on nearby Albert Street.

Will wait from feedback from more experienced trig people about this one.

Many thanks for finding this one! Very much appreciated. And it's always especially helpful to know about good viewing/photographing spots, because some of these reservoirs are difficlut to see and approach.

I'll ask rogerw3 about finding more of these Sydney area reservoirs with 'stumps' instead of full trigpoints. There's another pair of reservoirs at Hornsby Heights, showing no sign of a trig, either in person or on the satellite maps, but there's definitely a record of one in the area.

I knew from a local map that there was supposed to be a trig station on top of this reservoir, but I was never able to see it and verify that it was actually there.

Yesterday I found the Mt Riverview trig & realised that the Warrioo one might also be missing its top part, with only a base remaining. And it also occurred to me that going to another street, rather than the Victoria Street this reservoir is on, might give me a better view. Sure enough, from Albert Street I found that I could see the base of a trig station. The coordinates I've added to this post are my viewing point.

It's not a very interesting trig, but it's there (well, part of it are there), so I'm including here to record its existence.
