Description

Lucy TS2904

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Lucy.

Serial number is: TS2904.

Last Inspected on: December18, 1980.

Elevation is: 199 metres.

Was unpiled on August 10, 1973 and the structure replaced by a Permanent Survey marker 1260, still recognised as a Trig Point.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Out caching with some great friends we stopped for the nearby GC cache and got this one while we were here. The first of this kind I have found. Thanks

16-Apr-22
Out doing some Easter Saturday group caching around northern Sydney and visited this marker while finding a nearby cache.

We had been here in 2020, and returned with friends for some nearby GC caches. I pried open the box today to uncover 'Lucy TS' and thought this would make a better log....

Annoyingly I had been in the park 30 minutes earlier (finding the GC cache), before decided to search for nearby GCA caches, so after completing my jog headed back. Unlike many, this trig was easy to spot! TFTT

06-Jan-20
We decided we needed a little caching today and with good weather finally (no high temperature records thanks) and even a bit of moisture from above (just a bit), we had a great day, grabbing a pair of trigs while we scouted about for GC caches....
(changed to a note - got a better pic 16/4/22)

Two big caching days in a row to find some specific caches in the Hornsby and North Sydney area. Great weather and reasonable traffic made for an excellent day! This is one of the trigs picked up along the way.

Nice to see the base of stones still there.

With all of the rain recently, I've caught a bit of cabin fever. Once it turned into a slight drizzle this afternoon, I went for a quick drive. Started with a nice walk to Gundah then stopped off here on the way home. Used to come here quite a bit with the kids when they were younger. Never had any idea there was a trig point here.

#GA1271 - 13:35; Day 2 of a Sydney caching mission with Sol de lune. After grabbing a couple of newer puzzle caches, we were back on the trig hunt now. Found the park okay and parked the geomobile close to GZ. Another of those covers which we couldn't get open, so another shot of the top. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Found our way into the park and soon located the trig. No way this one would either, so a quick photo and we were on our way.

27-Jan-17
Not needed for the summer scavenger series but couldn't drive by a drive by without a cheeky quick log. The PM is still surrounded by the base of the old trig which was a nice addition.

11-Jan-17
Collected a few trigs while on a work trip to Sydney. This was one and an interesting name for a trig. Thought I was going to find something a little larger!

04-Dec-16
Another trig being refound from an earlier hunt back in the 1980s. Found then 1218, Wednesday, 27/6/1984. I didn't have any success with either Barbara or Beaumont trigs then.
Back in Sydney for a short visit I stopped off at a house that our family lived in just up near the end of Beryl Avenue (Flinders Place. Memories.
Today I found the PM box style trig @ 1850, with a name plate on the inside of the lid. I tried to dig down to a pin or other marker, but it seems that nothing is close.

22-Sep-16
was in the area checking out the new Mt K batch plant for NorthConnex and noticed this trig was on the way back to the office.

Found the location easily enough but could not open the lid to see the actual marker.

An awesome little park

Found today on the way north to Tuggerah Lakes. Great to turn off the road and grab a few trigs. TFTC

05-May-13
Found early before the long journey for Panorama cache. Easy PM style Trig.

23-Sep-12
A nice easy one here, though using a camera right next to a playground might be seen as a bit suss. Luckily the one user of the playground was leaving as I pulled up.

21-Sep-12
Nice easy find. Made even easier by the recent paint job.

15-Sep-12
Found this one while out and about with Cheesy pigs. TFTC

A nice easy find. thanks for the cache

New to this so I added treasure.

What fun this is. I'm no longer a muggle!

Last time I didn't realise I was looking for the Survey marker. Found it today in the middle of a quite distint circle of sucken stones.

Great cache.

18-Jul-11
Good to see the ground-level stonework has survived. There's a decent ants nest inside so wasn't able to see the bottom.

08-May-11
Found this trig on a tour through the Hills area.

Another one of these trigs that doesn't have a tower anymore.

01-May-11
Rode right up to this quaint little park on the DR, then found the trig marker as its the same as Peate

24-Mar-11
Found today with pjmpjm, I had wanted to do this one for quite some time, thanks to pjmpjm I got there today.
This is still a Trig even though it is also listed as a Permanent Survey Marker 1260. An unusual one used by the local ant colony as a nest entrance!

I was interested to see this 'Permanent Marker' or 'Trig' first hand.

It was exactly as Yurt has described it -- a hatch-type in-ground affair, with the 'Lucy T. S.' attached underneath.

You have to pry open the top of the hatch to see what's underneath. I used a large screwdriver and it opened easily.

Is it a trig? You can argue that it's on the same site as the trig and carries the same name plaque. Is it a permanent marker? Well, it says 'PM' and 'Coords' on the top of the hatch.

We'll have to think this one over.

In the meantime, kudos to Yurt and son for studying the old maps and successfully finding it.

(Since it's in a public park at the corner of Beryl Avenue and the Pacific Highway in Mt. Colah, you'll have no trouble whatsoever in accessing it.)

Photos on the way this evening.

26-Jan-11
Nice quick find of the former Lucy trig that can be identified by lifting the cover.

17-Jan-11
After the rediscovery of Peate trig nearby we were hopeful of making another find in this park. Not being bushland it wasn't as promising but before you knew it we'd found this one almost the same. The circle of rocks set in the ground could have been the remnants of the original stone trig. The hatch was opened - it was full of ants! - and Eureka! there was the plate which said "Lucy T.S".
See the photos.
