A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We missed this one several years ago, the kids were spooked with the private property signs. Today we drove in like we owned the place, and walked into what felt like someone's front garden! We got the pic though! Smile

Two big caching days in a row to find some specific caches in the Hornsby and North Sydney area. Great weather and reasonable traffic made for an excellent day! This is one of the trigs picked up along the way.

With a day off, what better way to spend it than to get out and find some unfound trigs. Thanks GA, love the trigs.

After all the rain that we have had around Sydney over the last few days it has been good to have a bit of nice weather today. Decided on a drive up the Central Coast & Lake Macquarie after some of the trigs along the way where there are a few clumps around. In the end I got to 26 trigs after that there was a long drive and I ended up getting home at about 8pm.
The second one I looked for was Hamley
Thanks for the trig took the required photo

Pretty roadside plantings. I wasn't sure if the trig was on private or public land, but it's easy to get to. It's there, among the vegetation.TFTC.

I was quite surprised to see this one just standing in the gardens. i was expecting a metal lid in the ground.

I lived a stone's throw away from this for many years but never came in for a close look. Before the estate was built, when this was the "La mancha Caravan Park", the trig was readily visible from the road. The "landscaping" is slowly taking over and to see it now, it feels like walking into someone's from yard.
The trig is still complete and even has its nameplate.
Interestingly the 1975 survey shows a 1.94m mast with 91cm vanes. Barely 18 months later, the mast was 1.54m with the 76cm, holey vanes it now has. In December 1980, the surveyor noted "At the time of my visit there was (sic) heaps of sandstone filling and earth laying around the station, this is for use in Adjacent Caravan Park building program and will be moved Approximately early 1981".
Before the cutting was put through for the Pacific Highway, the highway ran right next to the trig, between it and PM30171D, which was about 20m SE of the trig. A remnant of that road is visible on GE at S33 38.283 E151 08.700 where it crossed the railway line and followed the line on the east side before crossing back into what is now Beaumont Rd.

Dejavu! I swear I have done this one before. Driving into the estate I started to get flashbacks and sure enough, my memory of the well-preserved pylon next to houses in an odd spot was accurate. I must never have logged it last time I visited for some reason. Fixed that now! My third find on a caching adventure to secure summer game points!

#GA1267 - 12:45; Day 2 of a Sydney caching mission with Sol de lune. Found this interesting trig still perched in suburbia as we headed south out of Berowra and towards Mt Kuring-Gai. Not quite a drive by, but pretty close Laughing TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Wow....so close to the houses......great to see it's still in location. Excellent looking trig in good condition.

I had previously found "Hamley" trig @ 1747, Thursday, 3/11/1983, and took a photo - but like every single photo taken of trigs in the 1980s they were tossed out in the 1990s - urgggh
I think that the trig may actually be in better condition these days tho! Found @ 1650.

Last one before getting back into the M1. GeoDirk photobombed me. This is the second time I've seen a trig point incorporated into a garden, very nice.

06-Jun-15
Found today on a trip up the coast for the long weekend.

Found today on the way north to Tuggerah Lakes. Great to turn off the road and grab a few trigs. TFTC

The 2nd Trig on my early morning run before a 7hr slog to Panorama cache and back. Nice Trig in great condition.

23-Sep-12
After hiking down the hill for the old GC cache, this was a nice easy find back at the top. I took the photo from the road rather than going through the gardens due to the owner of the adjacent property being out the front doing things in the garage.

It is great to see that this trig point has not been bulldozed as part of the new subdivision/housing development here!!

08-May-11
Found this trig on a tour through the Hills area.

A nice old trig to find and the last of the day.

01-May-11
Well they've made something of this ridgetop; nice new houses with views and a trig to boot

Another Trig to the list, found with pjmpjm, a nice well preserved trig, an easy find in the new estate, looks like someone might purchase that plot of land and get the trig as a bonus.

This trigpoint has everything you could want in a trig!

Nice black vanes -- in reasonable shape (slightly rusted)-- an intact side plaque that identifies the trig by name, and a proper top plate sitting on top of the concrete pillar. And no graffiti whatsoever.

Perhaps the builders of the new housing estate where it sits have recognised that it's a plus for the residents to have this trig sitting nearby, adding a bit of historical interest!

It's located very near the new housing, but on a kind of 'nature strip' between Preston Way and private property. You can reach it easily and get 'up close and personal' with it.

Photos follow this evening . . .

Found this one while waiting fot the heat the reduce before I did the nearby Team Webguy cache.

I still prefer the Trigs on the ground!?!

20-Jan-11
Spotted this trig, among many others in the area, when looking at old parish maps. I was able to spot it on Google Earth and confirm (via the shadow) on Nearmap. Today we drove into the new estate and spotted it straight away. There's a house under construction nearby but it looks like this one has been saved and preserved. It has everything you need in a trig in all the right places. The plaque "Hamley T.S. 1973" is intact as well.

Very happy to see it still in one piece!
