Description

Cole TS1531

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Cole.

Serial number is: TS1531.

Last Inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 196 metres.

This old fashioned trig is on the track to "Panorama Cache" (GC6A0) and consists of a well-constructed cairn of stones. The name was confirmed from old parish maps and the coordinates are based on geomatica's as logged as a waypoint on the way to Panorama Cache.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Spent a great day paddling over from West Head to Little Shark Rock Point beach and then a hike along Govett Ridge to see the two trigs before paddling back. Great place to explore

16-Sep-18
Always good to find these wonderfully built trigs. And a nice surprise when you have a nice track passing right by them. First of the two tp's on the way to Taffys Rock.

Photo includes bonus finger. Laughing

Michael (GPS).

Came across this nice trig on the way to Panorama Cache. TFTTP!
Cheers,

This was the first stop on my way out to Taffy's Rock. Getting to this trig was easy enough. The track so far had been clear enough and was quite easy to traverse, especially compared to the climb out of Jerusalem Bay.

Got to this one at last although it is a tough climb to get there from Cowan station. Nonetheless a great cairn in
amazing condition, most of the mast is still there and where the name and elevation was painted on it this has now been sandblasted to slightly raised letters! you can still make out the name 'COLE' and the elevation '672' in feet of course. Only one of the vanes remain on top of the cairn.

This made for a great day out, I must get back to do the remaining 2 Trigs along the ridge, I chickened out when the weather started looking decidedly menacing and turned back.

We decide to walk out to Taffy's Rock today and came across this beautifully constructed trip.

12-Jan-16
Decided to combine a walk from Cowan to Brooklyn with a revisit to Panorama Cache next to Taffys Rock. Pity I picked a stinking hot day and forgot my walking poles. Crying or Very sad The track is getting overgrown with all the recent rain but still OK

I actually first 'found' this trig on 3 May 2014, however, at the time I wasn't that interested in trigs so walked straight past. Now, I actually go out of my way to seek them out! Rediscovered this one today on a club walk to Taffy's Rock, Cliff Trig, Fishermans Beach and back.

21-Feb-15
No searching for this one needed. Right on the path.

01-Jan-15
Awsome Hike

30-May-14
Passed by on way to Panorama

18-Aug-13
First trig (and GCA cache) ever. Found with C62, B@W and Tyreless. Had a lot of fun hiking in and doing the whole walk to Panorama and back. Great fun and worth stopping at the trigs even if you don't do GCA like us Surprised

11-Aug-13
Nice big stone cairn passed on the way out to Taffy's Rock.

03-Aug-13
WELL, after visiting the first time almost 30 years ago it was time stop by and see if much had changed. The track out to here has been 'up-graded' Confused as last time I came it was within 6 months of the area being burnt out, and all the new growth made it quite miserable. (It still took me this time a T4 route to get to the track tho.)
Knowing it would be quite a hike to get Panorama and Cliff TP I was grateful to have MVMB along for the walk. Found this cairn / trig first time 0945, Monday, 10/10/83, which I photographed, but as mentioned on many other trig pages, those photos had been tossed out in the 90's Evil or Very Mad without any consultation.
This time, found 1616

06-May-13
The first of the trigs on our seven hour adventure to Panorama Cache and Beyond!

A great walk, featuring lovely being trig cairns.

05-May-13
The first of 3 trigs team SKYCAB captured while on an epic 7hr journey to get Panorama cache. Plenty of rocks, but no vanes. Nice walk on an easy trail.

05-May-13
Our first target on our SPYCCAB expedition to Panorama cache. We've found a lot of these old stone cairns in the northern parts of the Sydney bush and they are always a treat. This one has a bit of the vanes left on the mast and a loose piece on top of the cairn.

05-May-13
Fantastic old trig, although the vanes are somewhat worse for wear.
Found on the track heading out to the Panorama GC cache and beyond with a bunch of intrepid geaochers.

13-Apr-13
Found whilst heading out to Taffy's rock and the Panorama Cache. A great adventure.

15-Jul-12
Found enrolee to a lovely panorama - nice change from the little cairns to find such a big one Very Happy

10-Oct-11
Found on the way to Panorama cache. An impressive structure with the stonework in good condition. One of the vanes is lying on the top of the cairn. The well-weathered centre post bears "Cole" and the height in feet (672, I thought) in fading paint. I wonder when it was built?

23-May-11
Found with Team Lego and Blossom, also worth checking out the rock carvings close by

22-May-11
What a well built and massive stone cairn this trig has! I think technically, strike-a-light was first to get to it as he was in the lead but we can all claim FTF I reckon Very Happy Well, first to log it anyway, others who did Panorama cache in the past and before TPs were listed here have "found" it years ago.

22-May-11
Woohoo. FTF along with Blossom and Strike a Light on a nice walk to Panorama Cache. Nice aboriginal carvings nearby that we are still trying to work out what they are representing.

These old trigs are works of art.
