Description

Edwards TS1940

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Edwards.

Serial number is: TS1940.

Last Inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 184 metres.

This old fashioned trig is the second one on the track to "Panorama Cache" (GC6A0) and consists of a well-constructed cairn of stones. The name was confirmed from old parish maps and the coordinates are based on geomatica's as logged as a waypoint on the way to Panorama Cache.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Logs

07-Mar-21
Spent a great day paddling over from West Head to Little Shark Rock Point beach and then a hike along Govett Ridge to see the two trigs before paddling back. Great place to explore

16-Sep-18
Second trig on the way out to Taffys Rock. I always marvel at the effort it would have taken to build trigs this way.

30-Jul-17
Our second trig that we passed on the way to Panorama Cache. TFTTP!
Cheers,
The Hancock Clan

13-Apr-17
This was the next stop on my trip to Taffy's Rock. The track had narrowed considerably by this stage and the cairns I was laughing at earlier turned out to be quite helpful at times. There were some really good views in the vicinity too.

02-Mar-16
Another trig out on the way to Taffy's Rock. It is a well built trig base. The scrub is a bit high now so it wont be seen from a long way off.

12-Jan-16
Decided to combine a walk from Cowan to Brooklyn with a revisit to Panorama Cache next to Taffys Rock. Pity I picked a stinking hot day and forgot my walking poles. Crying or Very sad The track is getting overgrown with all the recent rain but still OK.

05-Sep-15
I actually first 'found' this trig on 3 May 2014, however, at the time I wasn't that interested in trigs so walked straight past. Now, I actually go out of my way to seek them out! Rediscovered this one today on a club walk to Taffy's Rock, Cliff Trig, Fishermans Beach and back.

21-Feb-15
really clear path all the way to Taffy's rock now, making this an easy find

01-Jan-15
What an awsome walk !

31-Dec-14
Awsome Hike

30-May-14
Passed by on route to Panorama

18-Aug-13
Second trig ever, and even more fun than the first (more of a hike means more great views, rock formations, trees, etc... more great experiences!)

Thanks, found with B@W, C62 and Tyreless. Very Happy

11-Aug-13
The second nice stone cairn on the way to Taffy's Rock.

03-Aug-13
Last time I was here it was all 'map and compass' work to find the best route to the cairn, and even tho it had been somewhat recently burnt out then the reqrowth was horrendous. With an unmarked trail it was a lot easier, but with quite a few big step ups could be rated Terrain 3. First time I have recorded that I found it was 1025, Monday, 10/10/1983, while on my way out to Cliff (no Panorama Cache to find in those days!)
Still have a beard, but a lot grayer.
Nice to see not much changed.

06-May-13
The second of the trigs on our seven hour adventure to Panorama Cache and Beyond!

A great walk, featuring lovely being trig cairns.

05-May-13
The second of 3 trigs team SKYCAB captured while on an epic 7hr journey to get Panorama cache. Again, plenty of rocks, but no vanes. Nice walk on an easy trail.

05-May-13
Second trig of the SPYCCAB expedition to Panorama cache and beyond. This one is another impressive cairn but lacks a mast and vanes. Some good views nearby both of these trigs.

05-May-13
Fantastic old trig.
Found on the track heading out to the Panorama GC cache and beyond with a bunch of intrepid geaochers

13-Apr-13
Found on the way out to the Panorama Cache. Great adventure.

23-Jul-12
Another open happened upon enroute to the panorama. Very Happy

09-Oct-11
Found on the way to Panorama cache. The stonework is good condition but nothing remains of the post or vanes.

23-May-11
Found with Blossom and Team lego it is sad that trig is now not on the new Topo Maps,

22-May-11
I managed to sit on the top of this cairn as the stones seemed stable enough to climb. Brilliant views along the ridges and i would dearly have loved to make it to the third trig but it was just a tad too far for us today. Maybe next time Very Happy

22-May-11
Woohoo. FTF along with Blossom and Strike a Light on a nice walk to Panorama Cache. The views from out here are magnificent. Another great stone work creation.
