Description

Windy Corner TS5674

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Windy Corner.

Serial number is: TS5674.

Last inspected on: January 22, 1977.

Elevation is: 822 meters.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Spotted this trig while driving past. Stopped and took a couple of pics and we were on our way again. Very Happy

Thank you.

Out doing caches in the Bathurst area with Waywardwoman, when we spotted this trig near a cache. Stunning skies with cloud today. TFTT

Found on the way around the area looking for GC caches.

We were passing through the area on this wet winter day when the familiar outline of a trig appeared so we had to stop. Originally described as a "bottleneck in concrete" it was replaced by the concrete pillar and mast in January '77. Snapped a pic and then almost got bogged in the very sticky mud.

15-Oct-17
Headed up to the Bathurst region for a bit of birthday caching with fitzy_1965 in order to collect some unloved and out of the way caches.

Fitzy had already snapped this one previously but was kind enough to allow me to stop so I could too.

01-Sep-17
Arrived adjacent to the trig and grabbed the required photo from the fence line. No problems and the photo was all good.

1st of many for the day......

07-Oct-16
I contemplated crossing into the meadow, but barbed wire discouraged that. It would have been nice to get a photo of the plate, but this was close enough.

29-Apr-16
A revisit with rogerw3 - and of course a pic from the fence was not enough ... so it was a scramble over the collapsing gate and a wander past the 'fresh' cowpats for the close up and personal ... for a sighting of the nameplate: Windy Corner (and it was!), a rename from the listing Lagoon Rd Area.

I saw this trig ahead by the side of the road as we were driving out of O'Connell. I was going to pull over anyway, then we realised it was right next to the GC cache we were heading for.

04-Sep-15
found it!

25-Jan-15
At least I spotted this while DNFing a gc.com cache.

12-Aug-13
Found it twice ... in each direction (though the second time, there was the walk, the camera work, and the wonder of what this trig was named - back along the road, and a soon D'oh! moment).

Standing only 100 meters away and logging another cache, the views here are great!

Found while doing a caching trip along the Lagoon Rd area on the way into Bathurst, cant get close to it as it appears to be in private property but close enough to grab this snap!

28-May-11
Spotted this on the way back from the rally today.

I had two people in the car with me, whose bikes had broken down that were very surprised when I pulled off the road quickly.

It is always a surprise to see an unregistered trig withing photo distance. Albida
