Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

This is the site of an old trig point, for which the fire tower now replaces. Its simple to get to off the main road and a quick and easy drive by.

Moe info on this trig is available here

-------------------------------------------------------

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA1950 - 17:00; Day three of a caching mission to Victoria with Sol de lune. After collecting more than 100 finds yesterday, today's mission is to travel west through Ararat, Stawell, Horsham, Dimboola and Nhill to Bordsertown, then on to Naracoorte and Mount Gambier before returning to Creswick via Lake Bolac, caching along the way. After a flying visit to Mount Gambier, we were back in Victoria briefly to snap this trig. Couldn't see the wood for the trees for a while, but took the right turn and it was right there in frony of us! TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Drove out from Mt Gambier before heading back to Creswick and grabbed the photo for this trig. Nice fire tower and obviously certainly required.

Thanks for the trig....

There were at least 150 black cockatoos above our heads as we arrived at the firewtower. We have never seen so many in one location before and each of them was announcing our presence in very noisy tones. The din was amazing but they are still wonderful birds with great character. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. Thanks for the cache.

Our first Victorian cache on the return trip from Tassie to Roxby Downs to see our son. Was only going to tackle this one if it had relatively easy access. This was ascertained as we approached along the highway. Wish all the trigs were drive bys like this one. Thanks.

A nice and easy stop amongst the pine trees to this site. Not brilliant view but the near-by fire safe is interesting.
