A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I've driven past this so many times. Today it was time to make a find as I went to the cemetery to collect a few movables.

04-Dec-17
After spending the morning in Sutherland working on a very old school multi in the nearby cemetery, it was time to walk back to collect my car. As I was walking back I realised I would pass by this trig so snapped a pic between rain showers. No GPS unit included as I was caching with my phone. Free bit of advertising for Sutherland United Car Care included....

Easy find!

24-Nov-16
Had a few hours to kill so I went for a walk to see what caching surprises Sutherland had for me today. As I was walking over the bridge I looked over to see this trig staring back at me. Not often I get to see water tank mounted trigs this close.

18-Jan-16
Spotted shortly after the more difficult council trig while dwarf hunting in the Shire today.

01-Jan-16
first stop on the way to Sutherland to get some moveables and to find some other caches in the area. Spotted it as we were driving passed so stopped & got the photo. Thanks for the trig

A nice bonus for a big day of geocaching.

29-Jul-15
Quick photo shot on the way past.....all good.

12-Jul-15
There is a new commuter car park west of the SUS club, used that to take the picture. Must be one of the highest places in the area!

01-Feb-15
Nice and easy to see this trig, I went into the railway car park and up to the top for a picture.

08-Jan-15
While in Sutherland I decided to get the needed photo for the log.

10-May-14
Twilight was all but over when we arrived to take the photo for this trig point. The photo has been added to the Gallery.

19-Sep-13
A nice obvious find while walking around Sutherland.

03-Jul-13

03-Mar-13
Easy to spot from the Hwy, but also if you drive around to the petrol station and have a good close look!

Quick drive by on the way to a business meeting this morning

31-Aug-11
I was heading home, and passed the towere with it's trig, and realised I had not snapped this one, so turned the car around as soon as I could (and turned the GPSr back on) to grab a "find" pic as I slowly went past on the bridge beside it.

04-Aug-11
Found this one easily from the Princes Highway bridge over the railway line.
Nice complete Trig with the steel pillar and the beacon structure over the top.

08-Jul-11
A few quick caches in the area, and then missed the Trig on the other side of the railway line. This one however, big and very easy to spot in it's tall glory! Parked, took some snaps and left.

05-Jun-11
Went for a ride down here yesterday to look at an old bike; potential restoration project. Won on two fronts; saw this trig in passing, and put a deposit on the bike! CB750 K7 project here I come...

18-Mar-11
Second trig on the way home tonight, following a detour due to an accident down on Heathcote Rd. A quick and easy stop, though absolutely no chance of seeing the trig from down here!

10-Feb-11
This one was much easier to access. Just the camera was not happy with the lighting conditions Wink

09-Feb-11
Spotted this one Google Earth last night and as I was going to be down in "the Shire" today I published it and a few others. Easy to spot from The Grand Parade but I went down to Jannali Ave to take the photo as you can't stop up there. There's an odd golden modern trig-like structure on a nearby building. Might be a lightning rod. See photo.
