A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Second of three finds (two GCA and 1 GC) while out exploring Caringbah with the geo kiddies. Thought I would target these two twin trigs in Caringbah as part of the journey or destinaton game. Approaching in the car along the main road its twin was easily spotted and quickly snapped. Then drove around the block to photograph this one. This one is slightly shorter than its twin but still easy to spot none the less. Snapped the required photos and then off to see if I could spots its twin before trying to track down one of goldfingers bond villians at a nearby park.

Hoping this find will move me one step closer to the destination, be that either the blue tile or my goal of 100 trigs!

An easy grab of the twin trigs on my way to a GC Multi.

I knew about the sister of this one, but didn't know about this one.

I tried to make a photo with the two of them, but due to absence of a ladder I was about two meter too low for it. While walking further I hoped to see a better place, but alas... So now I got this picture...

Been meaning to log these twin trigs for ages as we live very close but haven't got around to it until today. TFTTP!

Heading down this way today for a few caches, I stopped by this bonus pair of trigs. The iPhone had this one plotting just behind the tall water tank which had me looking for something on the ground, but of course from a different angle I could see it sitting pretty up there. Was thinking of editing the coords but on OziExplorer it plots correctly so go figure. Another trig closer to 1000 GCA finds.

#GA564 - 08:20; I was in Sydney with the geohoney for an event and evening function yesterday. While she was getting ready to head off for a day around Sydney, I headed off for a couple of trigs. This was the second of two, although until I went around the corner, I didn't realise how close these two were. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

If I thought Caringbah was difficult to get a photo of this was even harder. Eventually got the angle, but selfies don't always work.

Found this one and its neighbour at 08:00 while on this morning's pre-brekky excursion around the area.

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

Today we visited the "Twin Trigs". It is rather odd that there are two trig beacons so close together. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: the first shows this trig point beacon; the second shows the two trig point beacons emphasising their close proximity.

The second of the 2 for 1 Trigs in Caringbah! This one is not as nice as the other but the rarity of two so close is novel and fun making it worth the stop. Wink

I decided it was overdue to take a trip to Caringbah to log this Trig. An easy photo from Maple Street, interestingly this is a steel tube construction with mast and vanes but is lacking the steel observation pillar underneath the structure.

No problem finding this one, but as noted by Yurt, there are two there, so took a pic of each to be certain.

Driving past today and saw this one from a distance. It wasn't in the GPS for some reason, so stopped to take a pic.

09-Feb-11
Having found this one on Google Earth last night and published it I just happened to be in the area today so dropped by to log it. Easy access from Maple St but can be hard to get the right angle for the shot. I spotted the trig on the large squat water tower on GE but when I got there I spotted a trig on a tall thin tower so I photographed that. Then I saw another trig on the large tower! Two for the price of one! But I'll only log it as one trig as they are so close together. See photos. Four stars for being unusual.
