Description

A trig point on top of Paddington water tower.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This trig is on top of an old concrete water tower in Paddington which is a local landmark.  Possibly the best photo access is Tooth Ave or Garfield Drive.

Sophoutloud and I are on a bit of a road trip on our way to Lennox Head for a conference, it gave us an excuse to have a mini holiday and take a few days to get there. So for us that always means finding caches and trigs on our travels. This trip so far has been great as we have had the chance to visit a bunch of beautiful Northern New South Wales Beach towns. Being the off season they have been pretty quiet and even though it is June, much warmer than at home in the Hawkesbury. We ducked into Queensland today to get a few things for the 4wd, after grabbing all the trigs from on top of Mt Coot Tha, we felt like grabbing one more on the way back through into Brisbane. Not the best weather today but a good day to head out and grab a few of these in the area

Wow, these are some seriously windy streets, who'd want to live here - plenty it seems! Smile
We nabbed the photo from the western end of Tooth Ave....

This new listing was my next after leaving the city on my way to Mt Cootha to round uo some new caches

I used to live just a few minutes walk from this tank and I never noticed the Trig sitting on top.. thanks for the cache!

Continuing my visits to Trigs around Brisbane I came here on route to Windmill Tower. Sure is busy around here nowadays. It took a while to get a good parking spot.
Cheers

Out and about collecting smileys on a lovely sunny day.
As I was driving up the road towards the water tower I spotted the Trig from afar. I stopped to take a photo from this location as I knew I wouldn't be able to see it from the base. I have uploaded both a photo of the Trig Point and from the base of the water tower.

Thanks for the smiley Geocaching Australia Very Happy

In and around Brisbane for a couple of days so headed out to grab a couple of caches. This one certainly stands out like a beacon up there. Grabbed the required photo and headed off.

Have driven past this many times and not stopped so today I decided to stop

We spotted what could be the trig point disc on top of the tower as we approached. At GZ, we took a photo of the sign and then spotted a real survey point outside number 17.

There must be nice views from the nearby houses.

An easy find, once we found the narrow street that runs past the tower. Our phone is our GPSr is our camera, so we have uploaded our photo of the tower.

I was in the area and took the drive up the narrow street and parked beside the fence. I used the Garmin to take a photo of the Nuvi in front of it. A muggle decided to pull up in front of me and drop off some school kids. I then drove around the block to get a long range shot through the windscreen.

Found and could see the column but had to photograph it from quite some distance.

Found a story about this water tower when looking up some trig information a few days ago. Read the story in the link and spotted a trig on the tower so published it using Google Earth coords. Today I was in the area (from Sydney for work, not especially for this!) and drove to the top of the hill. It's so high it's difficult to get an angle on the trig. However on Garfield Drive if you go down the hill a bit you can spot it as in my photos. The base of the tower is fenced off but you can see the original sign. Will upload photos when back home tomorrow.
