Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it.
Official Code: Permanent Mark PM58002
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Access: This is within the Univeristy of Newcastle, Callaghan campus, The 'trick' is to find somewhere to park, especially during the week, so it may be best to start at Newcastle Test Line PM58003.

The first of two testlines we did today. No problems with this one and the trig was soon snapped. Very quiet at the Uni on Easter Sunday.
Another trig and another dragonZone crossed off. Thanks for the fun....
This photo has the campus buildings in the background to help distinguish it from the others.
Thanks.
I parked outside the 'Transgrid' area, and took a short walk over to the concrete pedestal survey marker PM58002.
Photographed at 1034, and noted the black cover on top identifying it with "NSW Trig Station, Do Not Disturb". The name plate was still there.
While these are not registered as Trigs and do not have TS numbers recently the PVC white caps have been removed and replaced by the triangular aluminum instrument mount familiar on Trig Stations. Further a new type of cover clearly marked 'NSW Trig Station' is protecting the mount.
It seems that this series of Trigs may have been set up for the surveying students at the University of Newcastle.
There are four Trigs within a short distance named Newcastle Test Line PM58000-58003
