Description

Misery Res TS3134

The official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Misery Res.

Serial number is: TS3134.

Last Inspected on: June 6, 1978.

Elevation is: 67 metres.

The trig was spotted on Google Earth. It is on top of the large water tank probably visible from Tumbarumba Crescent, Heckenberg.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We couldn't spot a trig today.... Misery all right!

Found the tank but I believe the trig point has been removed (see previous logs)

Searched for this one while out on a caching run through the Liverpool area. Total haul for the day was over ten caches including 6 trigs, some GC caches and a virtual.

This was my sixth attempted GCA cache for the day. Appropriately named I think - Misery...Thought this would be a quick park and snap but arriving at the water tower no trig could be seen. No problem, i'll go for a little walk and try and see if I can spot the trig from another angle. I walked all the way around including along Elizabeth Drive and through the knee high grass/bushes at the back of the tower. No trig could be seen. Also checked the ground to see if the vanes had been removed and left there...nothing. Then tried to check the logs but could not view any images with the GCA website down. At least I made a detour for a great nearby GC cache.

Looking now at the gallery I'm sure this trig is gone...there is no way I would have missed that trig and it looks like the tower has had a facelift since the last photographed find of the trig. Might need to archive this one Sad

Well this is the 1st completed from new location of traveling to work & return. A nice quick point & shoot from the road as describe in description of trig. An afternoon thunderstorm in the distance that came to nothing. - thanks Clan GriffinSmile

Spotted this reservoir while stopped at the traffic lights on Elizabeth Drive and decided to have a look for a trig and found it around the back side of the reservoir. I accessed it from Mannix Park.

Found today with friends doing the driving duties, I wanted to find a few more but I was outvoted.

#GA413 - 12:55; I suggested to Sol de lune some time back that we should do a day run to Sydney to pick up some of the GCA trigs and caches on offer. A couple of weeks ago we identified an opportunity timing wise and so it was that we made our way north today, collecting a total of 32 trigs for the day. Parked beside a busy road and needed to cross over to get the right angle for a snap. All good in the end though Dancing TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

A day trip planned with LuckyL10n to start grabbing a few trigs in different areas of Sydney. Hit Campbelltown, Liverpool, Fairfield and Bankstown today...and grabbed a total of 32. Back in a couple of months for another go.

No problems here and the photos were soon grabbed...through the trees.

Strange name given I think the tank is called Mt Pritchard Reservoir! A bit hard to spot from over the main road due to trees, and it's on the back of the tank so it might be better from the cross street.

After getting the close by cache I walked up to the water tower. Armed with only my iPhone I couldn't get a good photo. Did get the GPSr pointing to it though.

I think the mountain had a different name so I had some trouble finding this one on the map. At location I had to walk all the way around to get a good view at the trig!

Spotted this trig, but decided to find the very cool nearby cache first. After that, The camera did the logging and the photo taking. Great sight of trig almost right below it.

Since I was in the area I just had to go the extra few meters and find this Trig. A very nice red trig on the side of the reservoir, easy to see and photograph from around the back.

Came from the corner of North Liverpool and Elizabeth. Then walked round the back for the photo.

Another one I spotted on Google Earth this week so it was up to me to publish and find it first. As I was in the area for work I was keen to see how to get close to this one. I drove right along Tumbarumba Crescent without spotting the reservoir! Then I followed my GPSr and picked it out over the houses. I could easily see the trig so I grabbed the photos over the houses but access appears to be from Elizabeth Drive. The gates were open and there's some sort of day care centre on the grounds? There's a GC cache here somewhere but I couldn't get closer than 140 metres so I must look it up.
