A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

The trig was spotted on Google Earth.  It is on top of a water tank in suburban Illawong.  Photo possible from Rouse Place as seen on Google Street View.

On the way home from a trip up to the mountains

This on was an easy way to spot. A park and photo

04-Jun-20
Needing a trig starting with I for a recent challenge, I made my way down to this on the way to a funeral in southern Sydney. A nice quick find and as a bonus picked up a nearby moveable that had been stuck for over 2 years.

19-Sep-19
Had myself a fun afternoon "mopping up" the southern suburbs of trigs. Now I just have the National Park and Bundeena to work on.

22-Jan-19
An easy find today while out on a late run in the Journey/Destination game. Total haul for the day - 4 GCA caches and half a GC multi.

While this trig could be spotted from Fowler road, I drove around to Rouse Place for a better view. Snapped the required photos then back to the cool of the car. Its going to be another scorcher again today I think.

Thanks for the cache Geocaching Australia
GCA Find #196

Hoping this find will move me one step closer to the destination tile or my goal of 100 trigs!
“It is sometimes said [citation needed] that the game of geocaching is not about the destination it is about the journey. This game is about the choices you make in the experience of the journey or the destination.“
Find # 30 for the Journey or Destination games.

Easy to get close to from Rouse Place.

06-Jun-17
Today's score: 17 found, one DNF, 14 GC, three GCA. A well spend day in the Illawong and Revesby area.

I want a backyard with a huge water reservoir and a trig point on top of it too!

09-Jan-16
On my way to Sydney for a night geocache I stopped and took the required photo of the reservoir trig. @ 1730

20-Oct-15
On my way through to someplace else, I thought I'd better take the small detour required to grab a photo of this one.

29-Jul-15
In Sydney for a few days and spent one day out in the Shire to hoover up a few of these trigs. No problems here and the photo was soon grabbed.

11-Apr-14
A little bit hidden between everything else, but an easy find!

Gradually getting around to finding all those out of the way (for me!) Trigs. This one turned out to be an easy find from the edge of Fowler Road. The usual steel post surmounted by a steel frame with mast and vanes.

No problems getting to this trig station cache. It was almost a sort of 2-for-1 as I was passing here on the way home after finding a traditional GC cache further along the road.

05-Jun-11
Driving by from Alfords Point to Menai so decided to stop briefly to visit this location. My younger daughter, Bethany was along for the ride so ended up as a captive audience for an 'education' session on trigs.
Cheers,
Wal

This is another one I spotted on Google Earth some months ago and published. Finally got a chance to drop by for the log. Rouse Place is indeed the place to stop - can do the duties from the car window! White vanes on a tripod, a bit unusual.
