Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ. A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape.

Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to. These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps. To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Driving through town and stopped for a couple of Trigs. It’s always a shame when you see these fine examples sitting at a distance on private property. Image taken and onto the next one at the nearby cemetery. Thanks for the cache Smile

This trig station was on private farm land so this is as close as I could get.

Out and about with the Rafas caching, A day that had it all Rain Hail Snow and Shine all four seasons in one day. It was cold enough to lower the temp. of the motor while going up to Bothwell and warm enough driving from Perth to home to put us all to sleep. a great day caching on an old road thats worth traveling on. lots of GCA caches to find, TFTT TNBPLN.

A couple of weeks ago, RLD4963 and I were returning back to Hobart from Burnie along the Highland Lakes road and I mentioned that there were heaps of GCA caches along the road. At the time we didn't stop to look for any as we needed to get back home to pick up the GeoGSP from his doggy pet resort.
When the Blitz game was published, we decided that a drive along this road would certainly be helpful for us, so we picked a day and off we went - this time we had the GeoGSP with us. The weather wasn't terrible, we certainly had lots of blue sky, but also a few periods of overcast weather, and even a few short periods of light snow, and the occasional shower - but it was never cold, so all in all, we had a great day as we made our way, looking from caches between the Melton Mowbray turnoff and Deloraine. It was a big day, leaving at 7am in the morning and turning back in to the driveway 12 hours later, but we had heaps of stops and breaks to have a bite to eat, we even found a dog park in Deloraine for the GeoGSP to really get out and stretch his legs after sitting in the car.
A nice quick stop with RLD4963 and the GeoGSP. Photo attached.

#GA2824 - 12:20; After an early morning arrival in Devonport, the geohoney and I disembarked from the Spirit of Tasmania II with a bit of time on our hands before we headed to Port Sorell for breakfast with friends. Finally located a bakery in Latrobe after failing to do so in Devonport, but we did find a couple of caches there. After a nice breakfast in our friends' new home, it was time to head off again for Hobart. We were now out on the Bass Highway and I noticed we would pass close to this trig, so we took a short detour into Deloraine for a quick snap and find on this trig and another nearby. First stop after leaving Launceston in the first day of a 4 day raid to northern Tasmania. No problems spotting the trig and the required photo was soon snapped....

I didn’t realise that this was a trig I had not got until recently. Went caching up the Golden Valley and picked this one up as I detoured through Deloraine.

We are getting towards the end of our accumulated photos with three Tasmanian trig points to log. This trig point has had a very chequered history. As it is definitely on private property and a short distance from the boundary, it has been published, archived, reactivated, archived and republished. Guess that standards of acceptable trig points have become relaxed over time. It is certainly much closer than many on the northern island which have been accepted as valid GCA trig points. So, we will join those who have logged this trig point. The required photo for the Deloraine Trig 24/1 has been added to the Gallery. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.

On the hunt for a few outstanding gc and gca caches in the Deloraine area. Stopped by on the roadside to snap a distant photo of this trig, excellent.. thanks..!!

27-Dec-17
This trig has been on and off a couple times, so we grabbed the required photo today to try to log it before it gets archived again! It's on private land but very easily seen from the road, much closer than some trigs we've seen published and logged. The other reason we were keen to log this one is because it fits neatly into the elevation range for one of the scavenges in the States of the Nation summer game currently under way. TFTT

12-Nov-17
While this Trig is on privste land, so are many others. This beacon is clearly visible a short distance from the road side, as are many other listed trigs...so I don't see a problem.

05-Dec-16
Some how this cache loaded into my bulk load, even though it is archived (which I didn't know) and I stopped and photographed it, so logging it.

Long distance shot from fence.

27-Jan-12
Damn - didn't realise this had been archived and finally decided to go through Deloraine so I'd be on the right road to take the photo. Went up the cemetery drive and got a really nice photo with Quamby Bluff behind. Never mind.

09-Apr-11
A per other trigs, if it's on private land we will archive it to prevent cachers getting in to any legal trouble.

03-Apr-11
This trig point is definitely on private land and, by the guidelines, should be archived. The alternative is to allow distance photos of the survey marker. Ruling please.

03-Apr-11
As per previous logs, the tig point is on private land and therefore would have to trespass to get to it

Photo from the fence line in fading light

30-Mar-11
Bit far away and on private property so took it from the fence line.

30-Mar-11
Photo taken from fence-line, maybe tresspassing to go any closer.
