Description
Wilkins TS4763
Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Wilkins.
Serial number is: TS4763.
Last Inspected on: June 24, 1982.
Elevation is: 195 metres.
Cairn type Trig. Look for a track to the right for horses just after Wilkins track goes to the left. Follow this to within 40 metres and bushbash to the cairn. Not a difficult bushbash from this side.
Logs
While jogging in the area I passed by this Trig. It was a bit of a bushbash, but not a tough one, and I soon saw the cairn - TFTT
Great looking cairn. So close to the track but you’d never know it was there with the bush all round. Found after a revisit to Arthur

Suprisingly hard to find, evem though it's just off the Perimeter Trail, as there's no obvious hill. Wandered around like an idiot for a while in the bush before spotting the cairn!

Three and a half years unloved on this one...not that I know what to do with those years. An easy mountain bike ride in and just 45 metres from the trail. No sign of the post or vanes, wg=ghich is a bit of a pity.

Out for a walk on this wet afternoon not far from here. Did the bushy bit along the myriad of animal tracks and was surprised how the trig just suddenly appeared. Quite majestic. Fascinating to think all these trigs were visible from each other once. Bush fires must have been much more prevalent.

I was surprised by how many little trails there were around this trig. It made the bush bash quite easy.

Visited this Trig while on my way to revisit Arthur Trig and continue on again to Mt Murray Arthur.

First tried to find this trig back in July but after searching for quite a while (without any GPS coordinates) we gave up.
Revisited the area on a SBW "Six Trigs in a Day" bush walk where we visited White, Cowan, Roach, Long, Arthur and Wilkins.
Very happy to have found this one at last.

The last on our crazy mission to find Six trigs in day using minimal tracks. Straight from Arthur and a fairly easy find compared to some of the day
I parked at the end of Echunga Road and had a pleasant 3km walk on part of the Perimeter Trail I hadn't walked before. There was light rain but it wasn't unpleasant and it meant I had the track mostly to myself (other than a dozen wallabies thumping through the bush, 2 bushwalkers and one determined cyclist).
I had walked down the Wilkins Trail a couple of weeks ago - ironically, it was the same day Yurt found this trig and which sparked my interest in trigs.
I found the turnoff where the Perimeter Trail and the Wilkins Trail meet and this got me to within 60m of the trig. From there it was a bush bash but it wasn't hard going.
And then I found Wilkins, sitting alone in the bush but still quite substantial and impressive, maybe 1.7m high. I took a photo and again marvelled at how these structures survive.

This trig has been on our radar for a long time and today we finally managed to get on the track to find it. Came in along Long Track before taking the turn right to Perimeter Trail. Followed this along its long curve until we saw Wilkins track take off to the left and saw a horse trail to the right, seemingly headed straight to the trig. We followed this until we were about 40 metres from GZ and went left for a not-too-hard bushbash to the old cairn. It looks like a layer of stones has been taken off the outside at some stage as this trig is not as large as others we've found recently. Hard to believe it was ever clear of vegetation here, enough to see Arthur, White or Long trigs anyway. Took our shots and continued back along the track and then onto Wilkins track to see if we could find a way to Arthur but it was not possible that way.
A good find after 67 weeks unfound.

Trig number 10 for the day with pjmpjm. This one while it is quite close to the track does require some heavy bush bashing to get to it, it is completely surrounded by dense bush, but it comes at quite a surprise when you get to it.The coords we got seem to be spot on, at least close enough to get you within touching distance.
Only the Cairn is left the post and vanes are long gone.

Another great old trig -- found together with rogerw3 towards the end of our big day of trig hunting.
Gold star awarded to rogerw3 for working out 'estimated coords' from an old topo map that proved to be within 7 metres of the actual trig GZ!
Otherwise we might never have found this historical relic, nearly swallowed up in the very thick bush.
And this was no willy-nilly rock pile of a cairn -- the trig base was well shaped, like a mini round tower. When I glimpsed it through the bush, I thought I was looking at a European medieval artifact -- it was so artistically shaped.
We can recommend that 'true believer' trig aficionados take the time to bush bash to see this one. It's a classic.
Another 'Three Thumbs Up' for best rocky trig cairn every found by yours truly . . .
